Gem English-Hindi/Hindi-English Dictionary: The world’s favourite mini dictionaries (Collins Gem)

This dictionary is avowedly for the Hindi-literate market. Still it is a shame that the chance was missed to make it equally attractive and useful to the large potential market of English speakers with an interest in the language, and heritage Hindi speakers who lack total confidence in written Hindi. Unfortunately there is no phonetic pronunciation guide for Hindi entries, not even an alphabet page, let alone shortcut pages listing numbers, days and months and common greetings and phrases, as appear in other Collins gem Asian language titles. An opportunity sadly missed.

This product is entirely useless unless, as an English speaker, you have an understanding of Hindi script or vice versa. There are no phonetic translations so you have absolutely no idea how to say the word you have looked up in Hindi. I shall be returning this product. (I put one star because you cannot put zero)

It’s a must have dictionary . Helps me to teach my son .

I'm a bit disappointed with this dictionary. It is the right format to take with you when you go on holiday but unfortunately the print is very small and at times it is impossible to ditinguish the Hindi words.

I am learning Hindi for some reasons and couldn't find online a dictionary which says about verbs trans./intrans. which is essential in learning hindi. This dictionary shows vt, vi but doesn't show the gender of the nouns!!! How can one publish a hindi dictionary without stating the gender of the nouns! It really do matters if you say kitab accha hai or acchi hai. I am very disappointed with such a lack of professionalism. Anyway, the dictionary is very, very small, mini pocket size. Looking for something else.

Not really of value to me as I have no basic understanding of Hindi script. I was hoping for a dictionary with phonetic roman script of the Hindi words as well as the Hindi script.

Diese Wörter buch ist für Hindi sprechende die Englische Wörter in Hindi schreiben möchten!!!!. Gar nicht geeignet als Übersetzer. Am bestens ist Oxford

The combination of english-hindi / hindi- english turns out good from a practical use point for kids. There is ofcourse the issue of having to refer to cross words in hindi again to understand some hindi words meaning. Pock sized, easy to handle and read book.

i bought this for my daughter thinking it will add to her vocabulary..but to my dismay it is ultra small with very small print and worst of all,the first 3 letters she looked for in dictionary were not there...so useless ..better english hindi dictionaries are available below 100 bucks,,better to avoid it..do not get cheated by low price offer
