He's 13 and his hind legs are getting a little weak in the hips. I bought this so I could exercise his legs in the pool while holding him with the handle (on top). This way I can keep his head above water and use his legs to paddle. He didn't seem to mind having it on, and it appeared comfortable for him. The material is soft against his skin. I feel that by having the vest on my pooch I am helping her to not over exert herself and allow her to be more buoyant. I can't tell you how many compliments she gets, check out the video..
