what is the iron plate area made of?

It appears to be a plastic material, should have a silicone pad on it as it is definitely not heat proof. I put my warm iron in it when I first got it and it started to melt. I purchased a silicone iron rest which I have in this stand and it works perfectly.

does it hold a y leg ironing board?

My guess is that it would NOT hold an Y leg ironing board. Sorry, but it is a great product, very sturdy and holds the largest irons.

did anyone have problems getting the metal frame which holds the iron into the spaces in the back? Also I only received one screw and molly

I had to play with mine a bit. I lowered the two poles of the frame that insert in the front holes while keeping the bar that goes behind in the back. Once I got the two poles in the front in place I pushed down on the metal frame until the bar in the back was by the holes in the back. I then pushed hard to get the bar in the back to situate into the openings meant for them in the back. Definitely was not the easiest to get in. It took some playing with, had to pull on the frame while pushing in place. It does going although you might not think so as you struggle with it.I do think I received two screws and mollies but am not 100% certain. We have loads of screws and mollies in the house so my brother could have just grabbed one from our store of them when he attached it to the wall?
