Top Choice for Durability, Convenience, and Usefulness - Exercise Mats, Not Just Equipment Support/Floor Protection
I looked at a great number of options before selecting this mat (bought 2), and I couldn't be happier with my choice. One advantage for me is that this mat is larger than most offered in the "exercise" and "equipment" categories on most Web sites. The extra square-footage offered a better fit for the space available in my exercise area, which was important in protecting the carpet in a rented apartment. The two mats, together, provide an almost perfect fit, while offering plenty of space for my purpose--exercise, not equipment support. With regard to equipment support, however, I can say that the treadmill in my exercise area would be supported much better by one of these mats than it is by a discount store pad, which is what it now stands on. No comparison in quality between the mat being reviewed and the equipment pad in use now. The mat wins, hands down. For a small apartment, with limited open floor space, the fold-up feature of these mats is a real winner. The folded size of the mat (36Lx12Wx1.5H) makes it easy to store under a bed or other furniture, or even on a shelf in a closet, as the weight of each mat is quite manageable for overhead storage. The "folds lines" for each 12" section are somewhat thinner than the "mat" sections, which is what allows the sections to be folded, but the relative thinness in no way compromises the durability of the mat. I've used the mats for several months, folding and unfolding regularly, and there are no signs of wear or deterioration of either the folds or the section surfaces. The convenience of folding for storage, along with the compact, folded size, has made the mats the perfect choice for exercise where floor protection is necessary. I've had the interlocking squares, roll-out mats, yoga mats, etc., and none compare with the quality and durability of this fold-up mat. The mat's textured surface provides a bit of grip, even when exercising with socks on the feet. The surface is even more "grippy" when barefoot. The mat can be used with either side "up," so you don't have to wrestle with deciding how to unfold the mat for use. The folds keep the mat from lying completely flat, due to the "memory effect" of the material after being folded, but the effect isn't enough to cause any real problems when exercising. I've never tripped over a fold, for example, as the very slight protrusion isn't enough to cause tripping. Only mentioned here because the mat doesn't lie perfectly flat when unfolded after being stored, then used again for short duration before being folded again. I'm not sure whether the mat would flatten completely if left unfolded for a period of time, but I suspect the slightly raised areas would eventually flatten completely. I can imagine the mat might shift during exercise when placed over some surfaces, but I haven't experienced that problem when placed over fairly dense carpet. The "slipping" problem could be addressed easily with some strategically placed Velcro or tape or weights. For exercising, this mat (2x, in my case) has been an excellent choice: quality material, easy to move and to store, protects the carpet perfectly, provides some cushioning for exercise, and is inexpensive compared to a number of other options. Highly recommended, based on my experience.

High Quality and Convenient Mat
This is a pretty nice mat that I've used both on my carpet (giant area rug) and wood floors with no damage to the flooring. It's made of some type of heavy-duty material that's pretty durable feeling, and mildly squishy. It has never moved or slipped on me, and it's quite difficult sliding my equipment around the room on it even if I intentially want it to. There are two sides to this mat which confused me at first since I didn't know which side was supposed to be face down, or up. One side is smooth, and the other is bumpy and coarse. According to the photo which came with the packaging the coarse side with the logo is supposed to be upward (which makes sense as it causes traction for equipment) and the smooth side faces down. I've noticed the equipment I use with this mat ( Schwinn A40 Elliptical Trainer ) leaves indentations in the mat where the footings are, although this is not a bad thing. Also, since my Elliptical Trainer doesn't need the full length of the mat I fold one section (each section is about 1.5 feet) on both ends underneath to keep it contained to a smaller square. Because of the folding it causes a little pocket which I've tripped over once or twice, but this is more because of the tiny space I have it in, as well as my lack of balance and stride. If something ever happened to this mat, such as an epic chain saw accident or a burglars need for excellent exercise equipment mats, I would buy this again. For the price the quality seems exceptional, and it's convenient being able to fold it in the event I ever replace my Elliptical without having to worry if the new one will fit my mat.

Good value, easy to fold, perfect for a treadmill
The Stamina earns its 5 stars for providing value (good function on a relatively low price) and convenience as it can fold in a 3 ft. by 1 ft. bundle for quick and easy storage when needed if one must exercise in a room whose primary function may be something other than a home gym. I purchased mine for my treadmill and I am very happy with my purchase, so far. Briefly, here are the more important facts worth knowing: - 3 ft. wide by 7 ft. long. It's the perfect size for my full-size treadmill. - Divided into 7 folds, 1 ft. each, making it easy to pack/unpack when needed. - 1/4 inch thick, dense foam synthetic material. - Textured surface. - Slippery when wet. - Easy to clean. - 90 days limited warranty which, as it's ALWAYS the case with item in this price range is mostly symbolic - if it comes broken, simply return it. The Stamina spent a couple of months under a treadmill that's used almost daily, often by more than one person. Unlike the rubber-coated equipment mats, this one sticks to the floor and holds the treadmill in place at the same time. I have no complaints at this time and, in fact, I am about to order a second one, probably the 6 ft. version, for our little Bowflex.

Good workout mat for hardwood floors, but slick when wet!
Having hardwood floors can hurt while doing a workout. They also don't provide much grip. I thought of getting the puzzle-piece mats but after reading that they tend to move everywhere and separate during plyometric (jumping) moves, I decided to get the biggest one-piece mat at a decent price. I don't care that it folds, but it does grip well. Small amount of cushioning, so you won't roll your ankle or anything. Only 2 problems: 1. it slips out of place a little when on the hardwood floor. 2. It gets VERY slick when wet. The only way to prevent this is to towel up your sweat right when it hits the mat, or to just towel yourself off before the sweat starts getting really bad. The good part is that it dries fairly quickly, especially if you have a fan over it. Overall, I think I'd buy another one just so that I could use it while the other is drying, and switch off between exercises. Its a good product.

handy product
I use this mat to protect out hardwood floors when I'm working on projects around the house. It is effective, lightweight, and easy to store. UPDATE: We are very pleased with this product. After more than a year we now use it for an elliptical, so I'm buying another for general use (under work areas or ladders in situations where the floor requires protection). This is still a great mat, with no visible wear. It cleans easily, protects the floor well, and offers a firm and textured surface that is comfortable to the touch. And even better, you can easily fold it away when not in use.

sturdy and folds up out of the way perfectly
I was hesitant to purchase because of some of the reviews but I have to say its been 6 months of daily use and this is just what I was looking for. Its sturdy and folds up nicely when treadmill is up or down. I was VERY careful to just roll the treadmill straight on the mat (front to back) and not to move it side to side as some reviewers had trouble with tearing. It rolled right on with no issue and the treadmill is big and heavy. The mat protects the new carpet which is what I was looking for. The treadmill feet made divot marks in the old carpet so I wanted something to protect the new carpet. I found the large furniture moving discs at Home D and put them under the feet so that when the treadmill comes down, the feet land on the discs. perfect. No carpet divots and no marks from the mat on the light carpet either. The folding feature makes it easy to fold out of the way. Good purchase for what I needed it for and seems durable so far.

Good for exercise and other things.
We actually originally purchased this mat to do sit ups on on our hard floor. For that it works well. It doesn't slip and has good padding. The fact that it folds up is probably the most useful part about it if you don't want to leave it out all of the time. We also use it under our furniture as well. We have wood floors and couches and chairs that recline. To keep the feet from scratching up the floors, we put these underneath and they work well. The creases where it folds actually make it easy to trim down (like for a recliner) if you don't need a piece that long.

Perfect mat for my needs (carpet, treadmill, renter)
I rent, I have zero control over my flooring, and it's all carpet. I wanted a treadmill and I have high-er pile carpet, so I needed a mat. The treadmill I got was easily moveable, so I needed a mat that would be just as versatile. This baby was perfect -- longer than I needed it to be, unfolded and laid flat right away, folds back up like a breeze. Best of all--NO disgusting plastic or rubbery off-gas smell unlike most other mats I've been around. Even after leaving my treadmill on it for several months, the grooves quickly popped back into shape and you'd never know the treadmill had been on it at all. Would absolutely buy from this brand again.

it was perfect for me,
I didnt like a thick mat. I liked the mat to be a little cushioned. I liked the mat to be something soft enough to exercise on, and also tough enough to be used under a heavy equipment mat without any slip with hard grip to floor. Stamina fold to fit, had all these features for me. I needed the length to be 8.5 feet that I can use it under concept 2 rower, but this one was only 7 feet. It is nice if Stamina sells the mat with longer than 7 feet for rower. My solution was to cut one foot from fold line and put this piece under front feet of rower. Still no slip. Would recommend this mat. If you want a mat for barbell workout, this is not for you, but if you want for under equipment, or a mat to stretch on, this is perfect mat for this purpose.

Love this equipment mat
Love this equipment mat! Needed something to put under our new exercise bike to protect the carpet flooring in our rec room. This mat is good because you can fold it to fit your equipment. Great for the bike or could be used for a larger piece of equipment if unfolded. We folded it once on the front end and once on the back end and it is perfect for our bike.
