Accurate right out of the box.
Altimeters are not accurate unless you can select the barometric pressure. This one has an easily adjustable barometric compensation, which then ensures the accuracy of the altimeter. This is exactly the same procedure used by pilots..."set the barometer, then read your altitude". Most budget altimeters don't have a way to adjust the pressure reading, so this one is an affordable exception. We live at 8,800 feet in the Rockies and after unboxing the unit, I set the barometric pressure and the altitude was exactly(!) 8,800 feet. The altimeter does have an extra calibration adjustment on the back that's hidden until you slide out the round instrument from the plastic holder. I never had to adjust it. The holder comes with a couple strips of stick-backed Velcroยฎ and has a friction hinge that seems to be tight enough to hold up to most bumps in your vehicle. The one drawback others have noted is that the dial is a little hard to read, as the markings and numbers are kind of a light font. Otherwise, recommended.

Expensive for what it is but by far the best passive altimeter
Wife really likes that I have it on our truck dash right in front of her for easy viewing. It seems to work very well at what it does. The key is to know the elevation of your house so that you can adjust it to that in the driveway and then should be good for at least a few hours depending on weather changes. No batteries to die make this a handy altimeter.

Pretty accurate - close enough for me...
Shortly after I got it, I went all the way to sea level in San Diego and then back up over 5,000 feet on my way to Las Vegas. When I was at sea level I set it to zero and then when passed a road sign that said I was at 4,000 ft, it read about 3,800. It's certainly good enough for my personal use.Update: I went back to sea level about 2 weeks later and it showed me about 200 feet below sea level...

Meh... it's interesting, cool looking... subject to weather changes.
Barometric pressures changes ... alot, from day to day, sometimes during the day.If you don't have a GPS to 'set it up daily' - this is gonna be quite inaccurate.Looks pretty cool on the dash, till the sun warms up the plastic, and it flops over. OK, tighten the screw in the hinge, and a week later, it's flopping over again. After the 4th time, I gave up... it's super glue time. Still looks pretty cool, and yeah, I do set it before I leave home, because it's seldom 'just right'. From there, going up and down through the Appalachian Mountains, comparing it to the Garmin GPS, they're in sync, works good.Weather front moves in, and there it goes, fiddle with it again.

Mountains high; Valleys low
This item secured to the dashboard of our 2017 car and is accurate on the altitude of the roads you travel.

Holds up to moderate abuse
Great to glance over and see elevation. Alternative is to use your smartphone while driving, or hoping thereโs signal when off grid.

Simple Instructions
I had to look up the instructions in more detail than what was provided, but once set up, I could tell the device making small changes in my area which is averaging 500-600 feet ASL. Sure wish I had this earlier on my trip out west!

Excellent product
This is an excellent, well made product that does exactly what it is supposed to do. It is easy to set, read and use in a variety of situations. We love using ours on car trips in the mountains.

WORKS WELL & ACCURATE
Worked well on holiday in Europe. A mountain pass marked as 2030 metres. showed as just over 2000 metres on the altimeter. That's pretty darn accurate for a ยฃ60 piece of equipment. For real accuracy the device should be adjusted daily; had we had a low pressure storm forecast we would have adjusted the device, in practice we rarely needed to fiddle with it, occasionally readjusting when at sea level.A fascinated gadget, we found it revealing to discover high altitude villages and roads that would have gone unremarked previously. The altimeter is now a permanent fixture on the car dashboard. Excellent value.

how high are we ??
worked well on our trip to California and back up the west coast. Lots of fun trying to guess what altitude we were at...we got pretty good at it LOL

Barometer-Altimeter
Great piece of kit. Works well, itโs accurate an easy to read when mounted on the dash. I use it to check altitude, when driving to ski sites and, to assist in weather forecast.
