Saving My Beautiful Indoor Tree Plant
Love it! So helpful. I have a BAD habit of over watering my plants which ends up in failure to keep a plant alive but a BIG positive for attracting "fruit" flies or whatever those little flies are called. I have gotten much better though. I also buy different soil now which helps during my relapses on the over watering. I've managed to keep a few plants alive now. For a longer period of time anyways. That reason alone, should of been enough to get me to buy this MOISTURE MONITOR but the thing that made me admit failure and actually buy this MONITOR, was my poor, poor, beautiful indoor tree/plant. I have a nice sized indoor tree/plant that I love so much! Lately, I have been over watering it and the flies have returned and my poor tree plant is slowly dying. This saddens me because I so love this tree plant. I've saved it from dying years and years ago when I bought it. I put more work into this tree than I have any other plant I've ever owned. I've grown to love this tree. It's been doing good for about 4 years straight now. Bloomed beautifully. Then I went back to over watering again when I moved to my new residence. I have no idea why. After trying the 3% Hydrogen Peroxide and water theory (how to help your roots breath again so they don't rot from over watering) to no avail, I just decide to replant my tree. So the first thing I did was ordered 2 of these Moisture Monitors to help me out after I replant my tree. As soon as my Moisture Monitors arrived, I got right to work on replanting my tree. I let my tree roots dry out for a little more than a few hours before replanting them in the new soil. I replanted my tree plant with the new moisture control soil, (which helps with some over watering that may occur). I then placed the monitor inside the soil right afterwards while the soil was still dry, obviously the monitor line went right to DRY. So then I watered my plant tree only half of what I normally would and the line moved up a little past MOIST. Had it not been for this Moisture Monitor, I more than likely would of thought I had not watered the new dry soil enough and would of added more water to it. However, as it was already, the little bit I did add was a little more water than I should of but thanks to the monitor, at least I didn't drown my tree this time. Next time I know to water my indoor tree and plants less. Still waiting on to see how my tree plant will do. At this time, this MOISTER MONITOR is the ONLY thing helping it have a chance. No more guessing on how much to water my house plants. No more killing my house plants from over watering. I am sure some of you know EXACTLY what I went through from your own experience and just how frustrating and sad this can be. So avoid this frustration all together and get one of these. YES, I would DEFINITELY, highly recommend this product for anyone who is over watering, under watering or anyone just sick of the guessing games when it comes to plants. I received this item at a normal amount of time. I am very satisfied with how it works. Very pleased with how quickly it catches the moisture level as it did when my plant went from completely dry to moist right after I watered it, showing me how well this product works. All and all, I am a very satisfied customer, with this product and this seller. Please, say little prayer for my tree plant. :-)

Works Great
I was worried I was over-watering my tomato plants. I thought I would buy one of these handy dandy moisture monitors to make sure I wasn't over-watering. I popped this into the soil, and it read immediately. I guess I'm doing okay though, because it read right in the middle, which is good. My succulent garden, read in the "dry" area, which is right where they need to be. I might have been overly cautious, but at least I put my own mind to ease and won't ruin a whole crop of tomatoes because I loved my plants too much. I also used this in my lawn. Took four different readings. Really easy to do. Just slip the little probe into the dirt, easily, and slowly, and it will read immediately. We are now on meters in my city, and rather than waste the precious water on a lawn and plants that don't really need it, this little guy will tell me when my plants REALLY need water. The probe is on the skinny side, so be careful when sliding it into the soil/dirt. Don't shove it in, just ease it in. It is easier in containers, as they typically have well draining soil, and it usually isn't compacted. However, my lawn took a bit more force. I can definitely see how someone could break the probe off, but at the price I paid, if it lasts a season, I'll be happy. Highly recommended if you are looking for something simple, and easy to use to make sure you aren't wasting water.

Inexpensive, does the job
I haven't used this item for very long, but it does do what it is supposed to do. I have owned several of these of different brands, and my experience is that they don't last a long time--mostly due to my clumsiness. Getting dropped on the patio floor will sometimes do one of them in. Thus, I try to get inexpensive ones and replace them when they no longer work. I don't throw the old ones away, as they are good for poking holes in the soil to plant seeds and for reaming out the spouts of watering cans that have become clogged with leaves. This is a good product for beginner gardeners because at first it is hard to tell how often to water the plants. I suggest along with this product, to prevent overwatering, put a smaller saucer upside down inside a larger saucer and then place the plant on top of the smaller saucer. This way, the water will run through, and if water is collecting in the larger saucer, you know you are watering too much. If you have pots sitting on the ground out in the yard with no saucer underneath, then the drainage will probably keep the plants from root rot, although you may leech the nutrients out of the soil with too much water.

Works ... But Only With Steel Wool
First of all, let me say that I see the price of this item has risen to around $10. When I purchased it *last week*, it was $6. As many other reviewers have written, I am grateful to the person who pointed out this meter works as a battery, and you should use steel wool (or some like substance) to get the corrosion off. When I first received this meter, I plunked it in a water bottle, only to find that the pointer stayed on "DRY". C'mon! Unfortunately, I didn't have any steel wool on hand, so I had to buy some -- which raised the price of this meter a bit. (In other words, if you have this meter, you also have to have steel wool.) As soon as the steel wool came, though, I gave the tip a good rubbing and -- sure enough, the meter recognized that it was plunged into a water bottle, immediately reading "WET". It was then that I was able to use the meter to monitor the moistness of my plants. I am confident that the meter will prove helpful in making sure my plants get the right amount of moisture. Just remember, if you buy this meter, HAVE STEEL WOOL ON HAND.

So much better than the probe with a needle pointer
It was a simple setup. It synced really fast to my iphone. When you insert the probe, the readout starts in a couple seconds and stabilizes in five or six seconds. I tested it on my house plants-30 of them. Each time I also used my probe with a needle pointer. The difference is amazing! The needle probe would read dry as in 1. The rainpoint would read 9%. If the needle probe read wet [10] the rainpoint would read between 72% on one then 87% on a different plant. So much better information! I love this product. Outside on two rose plants that I had watered the day before one read 74% while the other read 36%. The information from the rainpoint is far better then my other moisture meters. Over all I give this an A+

A Moisture Meter that Works
I have used this type of moisture meter for years and it has saved many plants from over watering and underwatering. Some plants need to dry out before watering and others need more constant moisture and this meter makes it easy to check the moisture level. It's quite accurate and have tested against some very expensive meters and the readings were about the same. Right now, I have several with one in the garage for outdoor plants, one for inside plants and one spare that my wife uses for her plants. These really should be called plant savers and they are well worth the price. It is essential to remove the meter from the soil and clean the tip each time you use it. I once left the tip in a pot overnight and the tip was destroyed. The same thing will happen if you don't clean off the tip with a tissue. It will last for years if you take care. The meter is sensitive to dropping so take care in handling it. It may survive falls on the carpet but beware, the meter is quite sensitive and can break and become nonfunctional with hard drop on concrete. I know because I once had one break that way. I think this design has been around close to 25 years so it's really not something new.

Good While It Lasted
I’d give this a 3.5 stars if I could. Started at a 4-star bc it definitely did it’s job, but not a 5-star since it’s not the greatest quality. This was my very first moisture meter, and I was glad to learn how helpful these are to help monitor my plant watering. I bought it in Sept 2021, but I discovered a couple weeks ago that it has conked out on me. I looked into fixing it online and discovered that sometimes these things just need a new battery. Opened the back of this one and saw that the mechanics on it don’t seem to require a new battery, as it was just electrical wiring. So, unfortunately I have to invest in another/a different one. I did appreciate the low cost and ease of use of this one. Because it didn’t last that long, I had to knock it down a star. Hopefully, the next one I get lasts longer.

Great price, very accurate and easy to use! You can't go wrong with this one!
Great easy to use and well designed product. Owned another one of these units for many years and after about 14 years of weekly use the moisture sensor finally went bad. I searched but was unable to find the original unit any longer. I tried many other designed units and none of them were accurate or easy to use. Then while searching on amazon I stumbled into this device. Viola! is identical to the original unit with the only difference being that the housing on this newer model is dark green while the original was light tan. I purchased two of the newer units just to be sure that I have a spare. You could not ask for more accuracy and ease of use at this price point. A great little gadget. Buy it!!!!

Great little device
It is really handy to know when pots and annual flowers in the garden need watering. Don't know why I didn't buy a device like this before as I don't know how I could garden without one now!
