Melissa & Doug Fire Chief Role Play Costume Dress-Up Set (6 pcs)

I was extremely happy with this product. I bought it because my daughter wanted to be a fire fighter for Halloween, but all of the normal Halloween costumes had reviews that the material was thin... I figured they were just more like one-time-use items. This had other good reviews about quality, and I was not disappointed. It is made better since it is for year round dress up, not just one night. Plus it is made well because Melissa & Doug is a good brand. The hat is made of hard plastic (not the really thin plastic kind you get at a dollar store) and it is sizable, which is great for my small daughter. The jacket is thick and has real reflective material on it. The bullhorn requires a couple of batteries (not included) and makes noise (it does not amplify the voice though). The fire extinguisher is a nice size. The cap is removable, so my daughter wanted to put water in it and use it like a squirt bottle, but it doesn't do that, which is probably for the best :). It has a cute little badge and a place to write the child's name, which is fun. The size is good. My daughter is 4 and very small for her age, and she does "swim" in this, but it doesn't look extremely big on her. She will play with it after Halloween as a dress up outfit for a long time!

I love the consistency in Melissa and Doug toys. Its hard to buy things online but when I see a company like this I just know that I will be happy with the product and they did not let me down this time. I bought this as a halloween costume for my son (who is three), which he wore this year and loved. But it also is now in his toy bin and when he is feeling heroic he will put it on. The things that I love about it: -although a tad big it fits my son fine at the age of three, but also can be worn for the next few years. -the helmet is adjustable on the inside to fit a ranges of head sizes - The personalized name tag is a cute addition and very fun and unique -it comes exactly as it looks like and the quality is great and sturdy - reflective tape made halloween fun and safe which was a really awesome feature to have -the mega horn makes noise and comes with batteries. Things I would change: - the megaphone and the fire extinguisher were a bit heavy on the velcro belt hooks and dangle, it made it impossible for my son to comfortably walk around with them all night and so they were abandoned before we left for the night -the fire extinguisher is non functional what so ever and is just plastic this will be easy for me to resell in a heart beat and I am fine with the price with what I got. I already had the fire boots so it was easy to put warm clothing and black sweat pants and my son was looking great this year! anything that inspires imagination is perfect in my book!

My 3 year old daughter wanted to be a firefighter for Halloween this year and she loved it! We just threw on some black rubber boots, black pants, and some ash on her face (some of my black eyeshadow) to finish off the costume. This costume set is amazingly durable and is a fantastic deal for all the little gadgets that come with it (fire extinguisher, bullhorn, fire hat, name tag, badge). The hat is not that flimsy plastic that play firehats are usually made out of... it's very solid and sturdy, and you can adjust the size inside to your child's head. It doesn't show in the picture, but the back of the jacket also has in large letters "FIRE CHIEF." The strips on the jacket are actually reflective which makes for even safer trick-or-treating. There are velcro holders for the bullhorn and the extinguisher on the jacket so that she didn't have to be holding them all the time. Although, she did whip them out often to announce that she's going to save someone and then (pretend) spray them with the extinguisher. Everything held up great and withstood a night full of trick-or-treating and a couple Halloween parties, no problem. This will stay in her room for future dress-up fun. I expect it to last for a few more years at least. Very fun, very awesome costume at a great price.

While many people will boast of Melissa and Doug's high quality toys, I often find their products very hit or miss. In my experience a lot of their toys are great conceptually, but fall short with sloppy, chipped paint jobs and/or lack of durability. That said, this costume is a clear winner for Melissa and Doug. The fabric quality and stitching for this fire chief outfit is top notch, and the added bullhorn and extinguisher are just the icing on top. This outfit isn't like anything you'd find at Party City (where costumes fall apart after wearing them just once). It's beautiful, bright, fun and a total bargain for $25. Pottery Barn Kids sells a similar outfit for three times this amount. My 3.5 year old will probably get a year or year and a half of fun out of this before he outgrows it, but I know I'll save it for his baby brother to enjoy someday too. The fire extinguisher and bullhorn aren't as sturdy as the jacket and hat, but they're in good shape so far after countless falls on hard floor.

Bought this for my son for Halloween 2012. He was 3yrs old and 35 inches tall at the time. It coat is well made, it's waterproof and is roomy enough to wear layers of clothes underneath. The sleeves were a little long for him at the time. The hat was cute but the plastic inside kept popping out of the holes. The plastic badge was a little fragile and cracked after about a week. The ID card is cute and fits into the front pocket. The bullhorn is one of his favorite things... it has sounds that are not too loud. My only suggestion would be to add velcro on the fire extinguisher and bullhorn so they stick to the coat. There are rings on the coat to hang them on, but they fall off easily. We hung a flashlight on one of the rings instead. Now my son is 4 yrs old, 40 inches and 34 lbs and the suit fits perfectly. He wore it with fireman boots from Target and got lots of compliments. He plans to wear it again this Halloween. Overall a good buy and worth the price!

Good product but there are 2 things that are a bit off. The description saids size can fit a 3-6yr old child but sizing is definitely not for 3-5 year old kid. I would say a 6 year old only. It is extremely oversized. My son is 3 and it was enormous. He is a lil taller than most 3yr old kids & it was still big. If ur child is average height for their age then this will not fit a 3-5yr old. The second thing is the description makes it seem as if u can speak threw the horn but you cannot. It only has a button that makes siren noises but u cannot speak threw it. Other than those 2 things, it is pretty good product. The jacket and toys are nice and pretty realistic. I would recommend but only for a 6 year old. Maybe a 5 year old but definitely not 3-4 years old. They could grow into I guess as they get older but just don’t expect it fit at 3-4 yrs of age.

I got this for my son's fourth birthday as he loves firefighters. He put it on immediately. I chose this one over others on here because of the material that the jacket is made of. It is made of a canvas type material so it feels nice and strong, and there stripes are real reflectors so it would make a great Halloween costume. My son has been where this jacket almost non stop since his birthday but I made him take it off for church. He also loves the toys that it comes with and he really likes carrying them around in the loops. The bullhorn makes a siren sound which is a little annoying, but he uses that and pretends he has to run to the fire and put it out. His six year old brother even likes it and he doesn't normally like dress up; I think I need to buy the police officer one now so they each have one. Both the costume and hat fit both boys. The only thing I do not like, is the hat, the adjustable strap on the inside keeps popping out so I keep having to fix it, and my son has a little trouble getting his tools back on the loops, but this was definitely a big hit, and I am so glad I got it.

After I bought an astronaut costume for my five year old, my three year old was desperate to have a firefighter costume. This was the one I chose, and he's really very happy with it. It has brought him a LOT of joy lately. The coat is really nice, with a cute nametag for the kid. The fire extinguisher is cute and perfect for him to put out pretend fires all over the house. The megaphone is awesome, as it has a button which blares a siren when held. It's loud and obnoxious, but it makes him VERY happy. Though I'm sad to say the batteries do not last long. The hat is the worst part. It has a plastic bit inside that you can tighten so it stays on the child's head, but it comes off VERY easily and is almost useless. Without it, the hat is WAY too large. So basically we can't really use it. I may try stuffing it with newspaper or something in the future to allow it to sit on his head right, but out of the box it was disappointing. The whole ensemble is perfect, though, and my kid is very happy.

The fire chief jacket is very well made and was a huge hit with master three. If you put batteries in the hand held megaphone it will make a very pleasing siren sound for kids...not so much for parents. I would love to add more Melissa and Doug costumes to the dress up box, now that I know how good they are.

Your kid will looks like a real file man in an instant. The jacket is well constructed. All accessories and well made and great to use.
