How long will this board last? Do I have to do anything special to maintain it?

Never put your cutting board in the dishwasher. Never leave your cutting board sitting in water. Store the board upright to dry or for long term storage; don't leave it flat on a countertop. Use a board conditioner, food grade mineral oil, or whatever they choose to send with their boards, after every couple uses; after every use if you're using soap to clean it. If you notice the board starting to warp slightly, flip the board over; this likely happened because the board was left wet on a countertop and it dried out unevenly (top before bottom). Oil the board a couple times a day for like a week right after you get it since it's probably dry since it's sat in an amazon warehouse for a while. If you do that, your board will last quite a while!

To understand wood and colors, if its Heart wood then will be dark and sap wood is light, Walnut is very dark if Heart wood but almost looks like Maple if sap wood. Then also Walnut comes in many species ,. Like Black walnut and many others.
