Review: Little House in the Big Woods - This is the story of Laura Ingalls Wilder as a little girl in what was the big woods of Wisconsin near lake Pepin, a wide spot in the Mississippi River. It is an excellent view into what America was like for some in the 1800's. It is an excellent and educational book for young children as well as adults.

Great book for children or those who are young at heart
The Little House series was my favorite books when I was younger. I was reading a biography about Laura Ingalls Wilder and decided to read the books again. They did not disappoint. The imagery created makes you feel you are there with Pa, Ma, Laura, Mary and Carrie.

Childhood favorite
I bought this as the beginning of a hardback collection for my granddaughter. This classic series is both entertaining and educational. I began reading these to my children (boys!) at naptime when they were just toddlers. They loved to close their eyes and "see" the pictures.

A classic
Delightfully and simply told, these novels are a favorite of many generations and are a product of the time they were written so not entirely PC. Well worth it anyway.

Fond memories of Elementary school in the 1970's
I recently bought the kindle set of the five classic novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder and started reading with this one which is chronologically the first. I have faint memories of a teacher reading our class three books while in elementary school, this one followed by Little house On The Prairie and for something completely different we were also read The Hobbit. In this first volume we meet the core of familiar characters along with the extended Ingalls family who were pioneers in Wisconsin when European settlers first arrived in large numbers in the first half of the 19th century. As this novel concludes 'Pa' becomes restless as Wisconsin is becoming well settled and he prefers to be in a wilder setting, which will lead us directly into Little House on the Prairie next.

This made up my complete set
This is a whole series of lovely books. If you saw the TV series you will put faces to the characters. I bought this as it was the only one I had missing from the whole series and to compliment Laura Ingalls wilder's autobiography Pioneer Girl which my son bought me for Christmas. Don't expect deep plots just easy reading from an age long lost.
