Great tool for vets interested in poultry
I’m a small animal vet who sees poultry on occasion. This book has helped greatly with determining what issues are life-threatening and which ones can run their course. Sometimes I wish it was a bit more detailed, especially with treatment options, but it’s still useful

3-star or 5-star
I gave it a 3-star because it was recommended by my veterinarian, but when I got it there was way more info than I needed or understood (I am not a Dr). If you understood it all and needed that kind of info on chickens you would give it a 5-star. Didn't have just common information that I needed.

... it is not overly 'scientific' and should be fairly easy for most people to understand
although written for veterinarians it is not overly 'scientific' and should be fairly easy for most people to understand. I have enjoyed consulting this book and actually read it for pleasure/education!

Book about Poultry Medicine and Surgery
I am a human surgeon with many veterinary school courses also. This book describes only some of the most common ailments of chickens and offers absolutely no treatment surgical or medical for each disease. I have never found any useful information in this book. I would say the people writing the book have little real knowledge of chickens. No drug dosages or even what drugs to use to treat.

Been waiting for this book for years!
A much needed textbook! So happy this has come along right now. Lacks much formulary information but is pretty complete in other respects.I haven't spent too much time with this book yet so this is just an initial review.

Gets an "F" for no formulary
I have several avian medicine/surgery books but was looking forward to a book on poultry for veterinarians. Generally a good and overall helpful book BUT - and this is a huge BUT, leading to a failing grade - there is no formulary! Indeed there is often no dose mentioned at all even though a drug of choice might be mentioned. For example, I looked up capillariasis today and the book mentions fenbendazole as a possible treatment but nowhere is the dose mentioned. Other drugs I looked up - similar lack of dosage. There is an "abbreviated formulary" of fewer than 10 drug in reference to withdrawal times, which is nearly worthless.Extremely disappointing. I would not have purchased this book had I known.

Good book for Vets.
I rated this as 3 because it was way above what I understood. Better for Vets.

Nice but old
The pictures are only black and white. That is not very helpful - especially in section and surgery photographies...
