Dell Ultra HD 4k Monitor P2715Q 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor

I have been using this display for a few weeks now and am impressed with the quality. I have paired the monitor with a late 2013 MacBook Pro (750m model) using the supplied mini displayport cable. The display runs by default at 1080p60hz (retina) out of the box. I have opted to switch the resolution to 2560x1440 (scaled) as I found 1080p to make UI elements a little too large on a 27" display. I should add that I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.4. I think the reviews on here have already covered pretty much everything you could want to know about this display, but I will add a few observations anyway. First, the default color profile seems pretty accurate color-wise, but the gamma setting looked a tad washed out for my taste. This is easy enough to change using the default color profiler in OS X. Compared to the retina iMac, which I have spent a good amount a time with, I think this display holds up very well. Though the P2715Q is not able to scale 1560x1440 at 2x like the retina iMac, it still looks retina-like running at that resolution and I'm not sure that I can really tell the difference. For what it's worth, I do prefer the anti-glare coating on this monitor to the glossiness of the 5K iMac. Text is as crisp as on the Macbook Pro's built-in screen and color saturation looks more or less same to me. Second, I received the A03 revision of this monitor and do experience some odd behavior when putting my Mac to sleep. Often the display will randomly wake itself from its "hibernation" mode for a moment and then turn off again. Turning off the power for the display is a possible solution, but there are two downsides to this: the display is fairly slow to power back up when not using the hibernation mode and when it does come back on it will have randomly re-arranges any windows you had open before putting the computer to sleep. For me, the odd sleep behavior is not a deal-breaker, more of an annoyance, and considering the relative cost value of this display, I'm willing to let it slide. 4.5 Stars.

This monitor is so awesome I couldn't wait to write a review! On my Macbook Pro it was completely plug-and-play (once I plugged the included display port cable into the correct port - one is a passthrough. The colors are great (and I'm picky). I tweaked the RGB setting to R:97, G:98, B:100 and bumped the brightness up to 80 and it looks phenomenal - the whites are more pure than the MBP's Retina display which sometimes has a faint cool cast. Editing my photos in Lightroom on this monitor is a dream come true. I was worried that text would be too small, but fortunately, it works just like the native Retina display - you can run in native 4K resolution (in which case the text IS too small, and a bit blocky) or you can run in a scaled mode, but unlike the old days, scaled modes look amazing. I'm running in the middle mode and text is clean and sharp (maybe just a skosh less sharp than the Retina, but super close, and hey, a LOT more screen real estate so of course the pixels are going to be ever so slightly bigger.) I like it far more than the lesser resolution and far more pricey Apple Thunderbolt Display which I use at the office. At the current prices, this thing is a fantastic buy. Plus it incorporates a USB 3.0 hub so you can plug all your accessories (including a hub) into the display and then only have one USB cable (included) to plug into your computer.

For a long, long time I have been using a dual screen setup for my main computer. Dual displays increased my productivity years ago, but having one monitor that fits more than one window makes me an even faster worker. My plan was to use this monitor as my main monitor, and use my existing 1080p monitor as a secondary display, but since plugging this display in and setting it up (very fast and easy to do, I'll talk about that later) I find that I don't even use the second monitor since I can fit two or three windows next to each other. Having everything on one monitor is even nicer than having dual monitors, you don't have to turn your head to look at the second monitor, your head can stay stationary. If that doesn't sound like a big deal, trust me, it is life changing if you've used dual monitors a lot. Setting the display up was super easy. I use an adjustable VESA mount for this monitor (Can't recommend them enough), and it screws in to the monitor super easily, then all I had to do was plug in the power, and the video cable. The monitor comes with a power cable (just a standard 3 prong power cable) a display port to mini display port cable, and a USB 3 Uplink cable to connect the USB hub in the monitor to your computer. I don't use the USB 3 hub but I did test it and it does work. Although I did not test the included stand thoroughly, it did feel nice and well built when I took it out of the box. If you are buying a monitor this expensive, though, I really can't stress how worth the $40 it is to get an adjustable VESA mount. I connect the monitor to my 2014 15" MacBook Pro Retina. It has the discrete graphics card in it, and it has no problem driving the display plus an extra 1080p monitor. I didn't have to adjust any settings on the monitor. Some people in reviews and in other places online have said that you have to turn off the multi stream display setting off on the monitor to use a 15" MBPr, but I found that on my unit it was off by default. I have so far found no physical defects with this display. Some reviewers have posted about yellow tinting and uneven backlighting, I have experienced neither with my unit. Believe me, I was so scared that my display was going to come and have a defect, but it doesn't, and I'm thrilled. The box is really my only complaint. I keep boxes for my really expensive fragile stuff, so that when I move, I can move it easily. I have a "spare" 1080p monitor that has a fantastic box, and I take that monitor all over the place (I work from home, but sometimes have to spend a week on site somewhere working through a project, and I also move apartments every year) using the box as a carrying case. The box that the P2715Q comes in is enough to protect it during shipping, but I don't honestly think that I could use it to transport the monitor around. Stil, my "box requirement" is a fringe case and very strange on my part, so I can't warrant detracting a star.

Update 9/14/2016: I had to return this monitor even though I really loved it because my MBP 2011 just could not drive 4k at full res @ 60hz - I could only do 4k at 30hz max. Believe me, if you can't drive 4k at 60hz, don't bother with 4k. 30hz is just terrible to work with. I would have kept it if I could afford another computer that can do 4k. I was to return it because I really enjoyed the quality of the display even at 30hz - it was so crisp and clean, with absolutely no eye strain at all. When I have a new computer, I'll definitely repurchase this monitor. As such, I had to go with the Dell 2417H @ 1080p. :( But if you have a computer that can drive 4k, do yourself a favor and get this monitor, especially if you have to do a lot of online reading or coding that requires you to stare at a monitor all day. I would shop around though because I noticed that the price has gone up from north of $400. ---Original review---- I do a lot of research so reading online is a must for me. I recently bought this monitor in 27 inch size and have been using it as a secondary monitor from my early 2011 Macbook Pro (4k won't work for me if I mirror it because my MBP is too old). PROs: - Once you get the full 4k resolution, the image is exceptionally clear and crisp. Texts are clear and sharp, easy to read, easy on my eyes. I had an ASUS MX279h and that monitor, while also a great monitor, was giving me too much eye strain and was just too bright in general, no matter what I did. Granted, it was a 1080p. Still, I have a 1080p older Dell model at work and I have to say, when it comes to text display, Dell just wins, hands down. I found that with the Asus, I kept having to look away from the screen because it was really hurting my vision. - The factory setting right out of the box by Dell is perfect, as always in true fashion of a Dell. I've never even had to mess around much except to change the MST to "secondary" to get the 4k display. I suspect that I might only need to adjust the display up or down, if needs be. - I like the stand, the way it snaps into the back of the panel. For some reasons, it just seems more secure to me. - The menu buttons are neatly laid out and positioned on the side, unlike that touch-sensitive hot mess on the Asus or others like it. I really hate touch-sensitive fake buttons. You either are a pressable button or you're not, OK? CONs: - Dell always looks like a typical business dad when it comes to external construction of the panel - boring, boxy looking but it works. So definitely, function over form in this case, which I don't mind. I'd rather have a thing that works and looks boring than to have something edgy and cool but fails to perform and just sucks the fun out of everything! (I'm looking at you, Asus MX279h!) - Connections should be on the side instead of under the panel. I see the point of the design, but it still makes it a little bit of a challenge trying to connect cables into the monitor. Overall, a fantastic monitor! I have to say, I don't think I can go back to reading text on a 1080p after this. I don't have a PC that can drive 4k in terms of gaming so I can't comment on that aspect. However, I doubt that if you're a serious gamer and looking for 4k, you would get this anyway. The response time in Dell monitors generally are always higher (8ms +) and input lag is probably a bit higher than normal anyway. But what I can comment on is that if you're a programmer or someone who has to read or do a lot of office work on the monitor a lot, this is for you. I've had this for a few days now and so far, no problem yet. If there are problems, I will update. And just to emphasize, since I've been using this, I never once have to look away from the monitor for my eyes to rest or to adjust because the monitor is too bright or anything of that nature. Comfort is the first and foremost important aspect in considering a monitor, for me at least, because I need to be able to comfortably look at it for long periods of time before deciding on any other factors such as response time, input lag, blah blah blah. If you can't comfortably look at your monitor, who cares if it has negative input lag and response time or whatever it is that you're looking for in a monitor! One last tidbit, if you have a old Macbook Pro like I do, I think you should invest in upgrading to an solid state drive (SSD) and to at least 8 GB of RAM. It will make your machine run like the day you got it and will make your life so much easier. It's worth it. There are tons of instructions on Youtube - I used sakitech because he used very clear and precise instructions.

A great product with terrible flaw. Well, it is fascinating how great technology and bad quality testing can result in such great and, at the same time, terrible product. Picture quality is unremarkable. Refresh rate (60HZ) when you have a Display Port and good video card is great. Size is great. Why I gave it 1 star? I bought two monitors and both have the same issue -- firmware (or mixture of hardware and software) is faulty. Once in a while (usually on a weekly basis) monitor becomes unresponsive and I have to physically go to the back of the monitor and disconnect/reconnect the power cable. Also, this unresponsiveness can happen when you connect a new video source, or when computer is going to the sleep mode. Monitor just 'hangs' - nothing can be done and the only solution is to power cycle the unit. It is painful for me because I have to walk around the table and it is hard to get there. Also, the back cover needs to be taken off to access the power connector. Is it normal? No. Would I buy this product knowing that I have to do this for many years? No. I called Dell and they told me that this is totally normal. After hours of screaming/arguing they sent me two replacements. I got them today (sent refurbished units instead). Good news? NO! Same issue! Then I checked other reviews -- many other users report the same issue- it does not wake up from the sleep! I would recommend to buy something else (considering the hefty price tag) or wait for another improved model, that has this issue fixed. Unfortunately I can't return it, it is past 30 days with Amazon.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid-2015) and I use this 27" 4K Dell monitor as my extension. It has absolutely no backlight bleed. All colors are amazingly clear. I use the monitor for work and I love having all the space to keep most everything on one screen. Over the weekend I brought my PC with an EVGA GTX 980 TI graphics card to test it for gaming at the 4K resolution. The most modern game I have is the new Star Wars Battlefront that just released in late 2015. I had the graphics set to ultra at the 4k resolution and the picture was amazing. It is a pretty incredible experience to play a game on this 4k monitor. It might be overkill for most people. If you are considering gaming at 4K you should at least have the same graphics card I have. It played at average 35FPS at 4K which is a decent frame rate for gaming not the best. If you are serious about gaming at 4K then you probably want two of the GTX 980 Ti cards in SLI to increase your frame rate during gameplay. That would be a very expensive build though. The GTX 980 TI works best at 2560x1440 resolution. This is an awesome gaming monitor if you already have a computer that can handle the resolution at a high frame rate, but most gamers are plenty happy at the 1920x1080 or 2560x1440(2K) resolutions. Where I will 100% recommend this product is for work use. The resolution of a 4k monitor is equal to having four 1080p monitors in one. I can have so many windows open that are all visible at the same time and it increases productivity. I no longer have to switch between windows to enter information from one window to another. Everything on the monitor does get pretty small at 4K. Having the 27" model helps make things on the screen easier to read. I would recommend having good eyesight if you are going to purchase this for work use. I sit about 2.5 feet away from my monitor and I can read everything at the 4k resolution just fine. Most of my co-workers though couldn't handle it. Its not worth the money for this monitor if you can't read emails or webpages at the 4K resolution. Don't buy it just to adjust the resolution to 2K or 1080p either. Otherwise you are just spending more money for a monitor that you aren't using to its fullest capabilities.

I'm not normally one of those people that writes reviews but I felt like I had to with this monitor after doing tons of research before purchasing it. Before I do that though: Yes, this is a wonderful, beautiful, delightful monitor. This has a non-glossy display and easy to access buttons. Now with that out of the way ... Issues and Explanations 1. You're going to hear on a lot of different websites and from reviewers that the monitor has issues waking up which will require you to restart the monitor, wait an inordinate amount of time, try different ports etc. However, what I can tell you is that there are multiple versions of this same monitor from Rev A00 and up to Rev A03. You can find out which you have by checking the back of the monitor. The earlier the version you have, the more likely you're going to have issues. The one that I have is A03. I don't have these issues with this monitor. 2. You're going to have to understand that when you buy a 4K monitor the resolution is different. So what that means in reality (especially if you have Windows 10, et. al.) is that you're going to need to adjust the scaling for your display. That means you're going to have to make the text bigger and the icons bigger so you can see what is happening on your screen without squinting. This works better on the MAC but on Windows you're really going to have to do some tweaking. (That is to say everything is really small.) The process for doing this is a little bit different for every version of windows and operating system. So if you hook this up and everything is really small do not panic. Pull out your phone and figure out how to scale the text and icons so that they are suitable for you to view. 3. Special note for GTX 970 people (since a lot of people are buying those and 980 for VR): I just bought a bunch of parts and built a computer. Gigabyte G7 z170 motherboard, Intel 6700K processor and so on. I also got an nvidia GTX 970 100 Million edition and it has issues (and it's not just the 970 edition that I have that has these issues) through HDMI. (Weird snow, black bars etc., black screen, grey screen etc.) The HDMI port on it does not like any monitor I plug this thing into. Apparently if you go over to the nvidia forums you'll find people with "HDMI glitches." How does that relate to this monitor? If you went out and got a 970 card and are having issues through HDMI try Display Port. If you're okay with 1080p (then buy another monitor and save some money but ....) this monitor will work with that card and DVI to HDMI. Of course, it won't work as intended. 4. Last but not least if you find your mouse is acting strangely when your monitor is at 4K then you should probably check and make sure that your drivers are installed correctly or more accurately that your monitor is at 60 hertz instead of 30. If it's at 30 the mouse can look like it's kind of glitchy or lagging behind a little bit. If this happens reinstall the nVidia driver, switch from HDMI to Display Port and check and make sure your monitor is operating at the 60 hertz capacity. 5. This is not a Dell Ultrasharp monitor. This is a Dell Ultra HD 4K monitor. Similar names but the Ultrasharp is the top of the line monitor with the ability to have nearly perfect color reproduction. That's not knocking the color on this one. It's great. Just be aware of that before you buy the monitor.

This Dell monitor with its factory calibration seems like a great deal after the first 6 hours of use. My eyes are not tired, they don't hurt, and I feel more confident and speak fluent french now. Truly an amazing display! Ok so maybe I only can fake a cheesy french accent, but honestly my eyes do feel a huge amount better using this new display for extended periods. My expectations were low, my old Samsung 2443BW 24" 1920x1200 display looks dark and muddy by comparison. Not just a little, a shocking disturbing difference in image quality that has me a bit bothered that I used such a bad display for so long. I am actually worried I may have hurt my eyes a bit doing a lot of photoshop and 3d modelling on what I now see is a really dark crappy display. But the plus side of that is I am super happy with this new monitor that sold me on its advertised image quality and did not disappoint me one bit. Other minor bonuses, there is a mini displayport on the monitor to reverse the cable it comes with (DP to miniDP), if your GPU has a full sized socket instead of the mini socket. My only complaints are minor. I didn't like the bezel in the images, looks like a phone from a few years ago, and to be honest I'm not totally enamored with it looking at it in person. But I don't notice it one bit when actually using the monitor and I am not the least bit annoyed by it now that I know it has zero effect on things like focusing on Photoshop or CAD 3d modelling. As well, there seem to be some USB ports on the monitor, on the back next to the display cable ports and power plug... which is like the least accessible place on anyone's desk. I have no idea what they were thinking, truly bizarre to imagine a USB plug located there is a convenience. It's a far worse solution than a 10 dollar USB hub on one's desk, which literally everyone that needs one has, so it's no big deal really. Again, that image quality, so awesome! I do a lot of Photoshop and 3d modelling and rendering (Fusion360), I am totally super duper excited about this beautiful image quality I now have to work with!

Beautiful monitor, used for photo editing with photoshop and Lightroom. Very sharp and accurate colours. Easy to calibrate. Some Lightroom menus are too small on this 4K monitor and others are OK. This is an issue with Adobe and not the monitor. It is time adobe solved these issues. Most annoying. The stand is a little flimsy and the monitor shakes when my desk moves. My other Samsung monitors are rock solid. I would prefer a more square aspect ratio for Lightroom use but it is very usable as is.

I bought this monitor for use on my hackintosh. Plugged it in with the attached cable to my gtx 980 ti and it worked instantly. 4K at 60hz. I literally have no second thoughts about this product I'm super happy with it. Once you make the switch to 4K 1080p looks terrible! It's actually crazy, I used to think 1080p was so beautiful and crisp, now I laugh at it hehe. One complain after a few months of use: I wish that they had included an ambient light sensor so that the monitor would adjust its brightness to the brightness of the room but ah well.

I am a professional in imaging (photography editing, video editing, etc) and am using as a second BIG monitor for editing on my 2016 MacBook Pro.. WOW.. fantastic, 4K awesomeness, colours calibrate perfectly. Yes you can spend A LOT more for a 'Pro'' monitor, but I feel no need to do so. Very happy with it.

Works great as a second monitor for my setup --- runs both my work laptop on one feed, and my imac on the other input. No dead pixels, and no issues setting up. Mounted fine onto my VESA mount monitor arm. Overall a great purchase and very pleased.
