How big Is the King piece?

A bit over 3" It's a great set and the box it comes in is perfect for transport or storage. Very good product, as I bought an additional one for a friend who taught me when I was young, (about 50 years ago)... :) and he loves it as well for portability, to take on trips, or to the pub while having a pint over a game... Perfect size as I hate the smaller form factor portables. Pieces store in a very firm foam cut interior, (think DSLR case). Extra queens have never been used though, as it will never get that far at our level... :)

what size is the base of the king? I need approx. 0.75 in. base.

For your King with a base of 0.75 in. this square of 1.65 in. would be very big. You need a square of 1.00 in. Remember, the King piece base diameter of a Staunton design chess piece should be about 3/4 (75%) of the chessboard’s square size in order to feel comfortable.
