They absorb like a thick sponge but don't leave a lot of water behind when you wipe the counter. So the counter top dries quickly. You wring them out well and they work almost like a chamois cloth. I rinse them well after every use and sanitize them couple times a day in container of water with couple tablespoons of bleach. I put them in small lingerie bag to wash in washer. Can put them in top rack of dishwasher but that makes them wear out more quickly. I feel like these are more sanitary than sponges or dishcloths because I can wash them thoroughly and they dry out quickly. They never have an odor.
