Essential guide to fishing the bay
If you own a boat and want to go fishing in the bay this is the first place i would recommend for you to start. Rudow is spot on with his assessments send provide great insight into fishing the bay fun y and experienced person's view. There will be a lot of thumbing back and forth and the charts could be better. But if you're willing to take the time. This is a great bible to have.

Mile wide and an inch deep
I have fished the lower Chesapeake Bay for a number of years and I can say that I was hoping for a more in-depth treatment of the techniques for catching some of the more commonly sought species (particularly flounder and sea bass) as I have found that in recent years they are more of a challenge to catch in the vicinity of the CBBT. I purchased this book thinking that it might help me to polish my fishing techniques a bit and increase my chances for a good catch. However, after reading, I think a more accurate title for this book might be something like "A Beginner's Guide to Fishing the Chesapeake".As I was reading this book, I thought the Bay itself was a great analogy of this book-a mile wide (or in the case of the Bay 30 miles wide near Cape Henry) and an inch deep (the Bay's average depth is astonishingly only 21 feet or 252 inches). It was an enjoyable read and it would be invaluable for someone who was just starting to fish the Bay, but if you are looking to hone your technique or to be let in on some secrets to fishing the Bay-keep looking.

Blueprint for fishing the Chesapeake
"Rudow's Guide to Fishing the Chesapeake" is a fishing gem.Over 300 pages long, and if you are serious about fishing the world's largest estuary (over 180 miles long) and its tributaries, this book is a "must buy." Published in 2005, it has locations of spots to fish on charts collected from head boat captains and other knowledgeable sources. The book is divided into three parts - Part 1: Chesapeake Bay Regional Guide in four chapters; Part II regarding Tactics and Tackle, Part III the various game fish of the Bay with identification of 17 different species of fish and their habits. The Table of Contents is a good one but the book could use an index because of the wealth of information served up on a platter for the reader. Use a yellow highlighter and post it note tabs for your favorite parts. If you would like read an excerpt of Rudow's Guide to Rockfish, a companion book, go to: [...]Both books make great gifts.

Use with a nautical chart
This is not a fly fishing guide. It is excellent however. I recommend you use it with the Ches Bay Chart pack. Rudow writes for the boat fisherman. Use of this book with a nautical chart should get you very close to the money in a minimum amount of time. Always remember though that they call it fishing, not catching fish.

THE CHES USER GUIDE
I am nearly 50 and as a military member, move every 18 months- 3 years, so learning local fishing techniques and bodies of water is always a challenge. This book is the BEST resource I have read on fishing such a diverse body of water. User friendly and written to "speak" to beginners through the pro's. The breakdown and easy to follow charts are outstanding. If you don't catch fish after following these tips, perhaps a change in sport is in order.

Four Stars
Good information, but it lacks photos ... requires in depth reading to glean desired information. Very thorough.

Fishing in the brain
Good read if you have fishing in the brain like I have. Bought most of Rudow's books and if you look carefully, you might find the secret tips along the way. enjoy reading fish stories anyway, and hoping to catch more fish this season
