I love this Churchwarden pipe. I had actually bought mine quite a while ago with the Tree of Gondor engraved on it. The bowl tends to burn pretty hot. It would be easy to burn right through if you’re not careful. It can even start to sweat, and some of the stain may come off on your hand. I’ve tried to build up a decent cake on the inside to help remedy it, but it can still burn pretty hot. I think it may be best as more of a prop for cosplay, or even just a collector’s item. It’d be a shame to burn up such a wonderful pipe, so I tend to smoke my other pipe more often than this Churchwarden. That being said, I still can’t bring myself to give it anything less than 5 stars, because it IS still a wonderful pipe! Again, mine was bought quite a long while ago, so maybe since then this has been fixed with these newer ones.

Because of the cone-shaped cup, tobacco tends to compress inside it restricting air circulation and requiring more effort to smoke. When you wash the pipe paint goes off with water. Would not smoke with it nor would I buy it again. Too bad, I loved the long pipe initially.

Love the pipe

The pipe was delivered in a nice box and includes a pipe pouch. I did a thorough inspection of the pipe and did not find any damage or cracks in the stem or the bowl. I will get right to the main issue that others have mentioned. I do not know what type of finish they are putting on the outside of the bowl, but I was ready for it, so I wore a pair of cotton gloves and used a wet paper towel to wipe off all of the stain on the outside of the bowl as you can see in one of the pictures. That will remove all of the shiny luster. Once that is gone, you will not get any residue on your hands.I lightly coated the inside of the bowl with a mixture of a little bit of bourbon and honey. Once coated, I let it sit for about 30 minutes to dry. I start out with a half of Bowl to break in the pipe. After the first half, I filled it halfway again and as you can see it's starting to develop a cake inside the bowl. I do not smoke a pipe like a freight train so the bowl was just slightly warm and never hot. The pipe smoked just fine with a nice draw but one thing to keep in mind, there is no way to install a filter if that's your preference. Be gentle with the pipe, as it is not built like a baseball bat. One nice thing is that this price if you don't like the way it smokes you can always just put it with your pipe collection because it does look good. I was pleasantly surprised and please with it.
