This brush is literally a knot genie, and a masseuse, and a smoother, and an instrument for making wishes come true!
This brush is amazing! My daughter has long curly hair. She is of mixed race. Her hair is the exact same texture as mine, also of mixed race. Our hair is corkscrew curly but not tight. We both need mousse or styling lotion to really hold the curl nicely. Both of our hair gets frizzy in humidity or when sweating and pretty tangled when we wear it out....especially in summer. So, to the rescue comes this gem of a brush! My daughter was fine with a wide toothed comb but because this brush came so highly recommended from a friend who was using it on her daughters curls I purchased it. It's simply amazing! First of all, it's big and fun. Makes brushing your hair seem like a magnificent event instead of a chore. I love that it's hollow and you can kind of hear an echo as it moves through your hair. The bristles are hard and feel good, like the massage your scalp has been dreaming of! You just have to be careful not to brush to hard on little ones scalps. My daughter is 6 and loves how this thing massages her head. I start at the bottom and work my way up just like the wide toothed comb. It works much better. The different length bristles really act as smothers as they separate the hair. I'm able to achieve fatter, more banana curls with this brush. I liked it so much I got a green one for me! So if that's not a ringing endorsement I don't know what is. I love my Genie brush and so does my daughter! We've had them about 4 months and they are still like new. Some of the bristles do bend a bit but they are somewhat flexable and it has made no difference in performance.

SAVES your kids hair and your sanity!
I have 3 girls, all with different hair types. The oldest is a swimmer and her hair is long and a disaster most of the time. This brush does amazingly quick work making her look presentable. The middle had curly hair a toddler but has since just turned to wild thick hair. She is the reason I bought this brush. While yes the bristles look like they can't handle thick hair - they can. The point (I believe) of the multiple tiny flexible bristles is to NOT yank out their hair. Each little bristle gently works on the tangles vs just yanking out the hair - we hardly ever have hair in the brush now. My youngest has stick straight thin "baby" hair... while this brush does nothing to keep her flyaway hair tamed it does QUICKLY without pulling out (the very minimal) hair she has get the tangles out so she can run off in seconds vs, minutes of brushing. This brush made me think I just spent "how much?" for the little bit of plastic that looks no different than the girls barbie brushes.... but trust me - it IS amazing - and give it a chance and it will get the tangles out...Oh and about the bristles scratchy feeling on the scalp... I have found that most of the girls tangles aren't really at the scalp - and because the brush does such a great job gently getting tangles out we hardly ever have to "brush" their scalp... we have just adjusted our brushing technique to limit the amount og pressure at the scalp - and I think the girls just said something in the begining because it was a different feeling.

No more crying 5 yr old, buy it dads
The box makes it look like I spent a good 25$+ on this brush so that's a good start. I love finding awesome buys on amazon and the reviews led me to believe this could be the next one. For the money this was a great buy. You can tell this brush is made pretty cheaply though, i definitely do not feel confident this will last a year or more. I count 8 bristles that are bent, making me feel even less enthused after opening the box. The big test, of course, is whether it will hurt my 5 yr old daughters hair/head. I'm happy to say it does not hurt her one bit! Asking my daughter to brush her hair was always a nightmare for her. It's important so I searched for a solution. Here it is guys. I uploaded a pic for you guys to see how straight the hair comes out. I asked 1000 times "Does it hurt your hair" and she would respond "Not one bit, I don't feel anything". I'm happy. I noticed the bristles are a bit short, so you do have to brush more than with a paddle brush. I do think that's one of the reasons this doesn't hurt their hair though, so no foul if that's the case. With the two cons I would normally dock some stars but when you factor pricing in, there's no denying this is a 5 star product. Buy it now!

Not the Knot Genie That Was
Bought this as a replacement for the same brush that seems to be wearing out (the bristles are bent at the edge, for instance). While it looks the same, the new brush seems not to be made of the same materials, exactly--the bristles are sharper, stiffer, and less easy on the scalp and snarls. We'll see if it softens up a bit with usage; but for now, i'm keeping the old brush since it seems to be made better.

Not near the quality I expected
I bought this because I read about it in a financial magazine - odd. My brush is very plastic-y and is too light weight for me. It is hollow and has a rattle I did not expect. Every brush stroke comes with the sound of a piece of plactice bouncing around inside of the brush. Maybe I didn't read details and this is expected? I find the noise very annoying. I have combs with curved tines that I think do a better job than this brush. I expected a near magic performance and find it is just a bit better than any other brush I have tried for combing hair to remove tangles. I am back to combing for now. I feel combs provide less breakage than this brush. Great idea but was not worth my investment to give it a try. I will continue to look out for a better product. I did not try to exchange or return it b/c of the rattle, so I admit mine may have just been one that was poorly produced.

A step up from regular brushes.
My four year old daughter has very fine, very curly hair. She also happens to be extremely sensitive when it comes to her hair being brushed and will often resist having her hair done just to avoid brushing...leading to more tangles, leading to more of a problem. I told her I got this special brush just for her and it's supposed to better for her curly hair. She loves the look of it and made no hesitation to go spend the next 10 minutes in the bathroom by herself, brushing her own hair. Sure, the novelty might wear off after some time, but this definitely is a step up from regular plastic-bristle brushes. It is more gentle overall, but still, you must work through tighter knots with caution, especially if you've got a super-sensitive kid like me. As others have stated, the bristles are very sharp, so you need to use this with caution on more sensitive heads. At least when my daughter brushes her own hair with this brush, she can tell when shes using too much pressure around her scalp and can easily adjust the pressure herself. I could never get her to brush her hair by herself with a regular brush, so this is helpful for me for her to improve the state of her hair before I jump in and finish brushing or styling it.

Great brush WITH a handle
My son and I love this brush! It works great for detangling and neatly parting his hair. The handle also makes it superior over the non handle ones. 5 stars from this mom.

Not like the original
I've owned the original Knot Genie for a couple years and love it. I wanted to try this one, thinking the handle would be more convenient. The bristles on this one are nothing like the original brush. It's softer and flimsy. I have straight hair, and this brush can't even comb down my head to the hair. Basically, if I brush the top of my head going downwards, the brush doesn't hold onto my hair for me to comb all the way down. My hair falls away from the brush, making it impossible to brush my hair normally. That might not sound clear, but many of these reviews mention similar issues. My hair is manageable, but I like the harder bristles on the original. I wouldn't recommend this, unless you have an incredibly sensitive scalp and can only use flimsy brushes.

Great brush, less pain
This works really well - the bristles are flexible so it doesn't hurt as much. It can take a little longer since it doesn't grab the tangles as much as hard bristles but it's worth the reduced pain.

Poor quality
This was a Christmas present for my daughter . It brushed her hair very easily, however after 2 months use the brushes have come apart from the main body. It pushes together until you try and use it, then it falls apart again.
