The lid snaps down but seems to want to pop up just a bit. Despite that, it sealed just fine. I used it on a 5 day camping trip, and it contained odors completely. It seems solid enough. The one drawback, as other reviewers have noted, is that it is a bit on the smaller side - there really isn't enough room for all the equipment, so "the boys" are going to be crowded, and you have to position yourself carefully. For reference, I'm 5'11" tall and weigh 220. Despite that, it functioned as intended and seems like it will last a while. Cleaning is easy enough - just spray it with some bleach and hose it off.
