A pleasure to read this book. I listen to a classical music station which includes interesting facts about the musicians' private lives. One day a guest mentioned that she knew where the host was obtaining these interesting facts. So it is a secret no longer; it's this book. Lives of the Musicians is light reading with approx. 2 pages of facts per musician, so it is not an in-depth look at their private lives; however put it on your "Fun" reading list. A Fun Way to Learn
Kids learn best when they can get back stories into the personal lives of historical figures, especially if they are fun, funny, or outrageous! The book is glossy paged with vivid colorful artwork. This is going to be a fantastic supplement to our homeschooling music history studies.

Great Help for Music Teachers
I used this book previously to teach my 5th graders about composers. It has great information and fun facts. When I heard that one of my former students is becoming a music teacher I decided to buy it for him.

A fun book to read
A fun book to read. The pictures are great. It seems so child friendly by the looks. But then it mentions things like syphilis. Guess I'll keep this one to myself.

Excellent choice
Great book for my niece, it's an easy read and quite informative. I'm happy I saw this book on Amazon. She will have fun reading this book and I will love seeing her read it. It was important for me to have her learn about the lives of these composers, not just that she play their music. Thanks Amazon!!

A great tool to use with students
A great tool to use with students. Short, entertaining and funny stories about popular composers. Gives a bit of context to what you might be teaching your students. Mine look forward to picking out which musician every lesson.

Great Book!
This is a great book! My piano teacher checked it out from the library and loved it so much I had to buy her a copy! The illustrations are adorable and the bio's are so interesting. A lot of interesting stories that really give the great masters a very human quality! I love reading about the musicians that I'm currently playing! If you are into music and want to know just how human they really were this is a great book!

Interesting and relevant info in a nutshell
My son is all into music so a good book to know more about various composers and their far from easy lives.

This is a nice book, however
This is a nice book, however, for my grade 2 son, I found some statement inappropriate such as: Beethoven's father was an alcoholic. Beethoven as well was drinking a lot. I found it unnecessary explaining about the facts. Another thing I personally dislike using "Girlfriend", "Boyfriend" words, simply because they look cheap and are not musical.. Not only it's not proportionate with the time and cultural of those time of Beethoven also for young readers there are extraordinary beautiful words such as " Beloved", love, friend etc.
