Pentalic 6" x 8" Pocket Sketchbook Traveler Journal, 160 Pages, Purple

I happened upon this sketch journal as I was searching for a new journal. The price point is excellent and decided it was worth a look at. I love the purple color and the photo is pretty true to real life (although I do wish they had this size in turquoise). I received it and am pleasantly surprised with the quality. The sketch journal comes with a ribbon marker and a back pocket. The pages will be great for sketching ideas. The paper is thick enough for sketching but if you are looking for a mixed media journal, I would suggest a different journal like a Moleskin watercolor notebook. The pages are not thick enough for that. The sketchbook lays flat which is a big plus for me and extremely helpful while sketching a design. The cover is also thick enough that it doesn't curl when it is manipulated. My only negative is the feeling of the cover. It has a weird soft matte feeling texture and after touching it, I feel like I need to put lotion on. Its a weird feeling but with use, I am sure that will become a non-issue.

I like to write and paint with watercolors... and have been ordering these books in various colors for a few years. The paper is nice and heavy, they travel well, and there is even a pocket in the back to keep items that might speak of an era that a journal is recorded. They even come with a book mark and an elastic band to keep the book closed. I keep ordering them and only once was disappointed by a clump of loose pages that fell out, but that was rare.

See the left side pages, certain kinds of markers bleed thru. I've also tried a dry watercolor technique and the pages still warp & buckle and bleed thru. Best to stick to only completely dry media, excluding some markers.

After years just buying journals that looked/felt fine, I finally found one brand that feels correct and can support all of the formats and methods I like to use to journal (Markers, ink, light watercolor --and pencil gets easily erased without compromising the quality of the paper!). This is my second time using this brand and I'm hoping to continue. I really recommend it.

The size is perfect; fits in bag but not too small to use. Purple is true to color seen on screen & cover has a nice leather feel. Bonus! Pocket on the inside and attached ribbon bookmark!

Have know purchased this same sketchbook/journal twice. I have it in purple and orange. I'll probably continue buying in different colors as I fill these up. I have purchased Moleskines [brand name] and the paper always disappoints me, but Pentalic's does not. The journal cover is great quality as well. Of all the media I've used so far, I have not had any issues. I have used acrylic and watercolor paints conscientiously (lightly, avoided saturating the paper much), Prismacolor markers bled through a bit but that's sort of expected in my experience, but other than that, nothing to warn or complain of. I'm very happy with these books.

I have a small orange one, it’s great. This “purple” one isn’t as great. First, it’s not purple, it’s burgundy or maroon, second, that nice texture they show on the cover in the pic is false. This one is smooth and shows every scuff. It does have smooth white paper, but isn’t well assembled. There are flaws in the upper inner corners of the paper/binding, like it’s been pinched or dropped on th corner. I’m disappointed it’s not like the picture or better quality, I’ve been wanting this sketch book for a while and finally bought it, but, sending it back. ... well could not return it, Well, it's non-returnable, but contacted Amazon and they made it right.

Great Sketch book! Color is solid, spine is really stiff and well made. Paper is thick, white, no bleed. All around my favorite sketch book and i've bought alot.

This book is great, though it says "pocket sketchbook" and it definitely is not pocket sized. I can fit it in my very large purse, but it is surprisingly heavy so I keep it in my car instead. Do not use markers or any wet media.
