The best can opener we’ve ever had
This is the best can opener we have ever owned. It is still going strong after over four years of owning it, and it is easy to use, easy to turn, sharp, and sturdy. Occasionally I need to tilt it a bit because of a strangely-shaped can, but it cuts through everything and never freaks out. If a can has a few bends in the rim, which makes it difficult to cut through, if I just keep turning the opener, it will eventually cut the whole lid. I believe the locking feature helps with that. To make sure it will last for many years to come, I hand wash the opener.

Super easy...
Super easy to operate with my arthritic hands. Smooth and easy every time. We love the product.

Dependable!
I love everything about this can opener! The locking mechanism, easy-turning-handle, and magnet for the lid are all perfect. I recently was given a Pampered Chef can opener but it stopped working after just a few cans. That one was at least twice the price of this one and this one is far superior. If you’re on the fence, look no further—get this one!

Opens cans and has a magnet
After my decade old can opener decided it was going to start getting stuck, I bought this one. After getting through the packaging, which wasn't that hard but I can't imagine falls under Amazon's frustration-free packaging program as it requires scissors, I recruited my cats to help me with my first use with a can of tuna. They were confused at first because one of the ways they know tuna is coming is by the familiar clank of the old metal opener but this one didn't clank, but snapped, as I hit the handle release button. Once I grabbed their bowls though, they understood and got happily on board. Now with two, suddenly-starving, hobo-kitties teaming up to headbutt both the tuna can and the can opener out of my hand, I pressed down the handle and the metal sank easily into the side as the handle locked on with a snap. It was satisfying. Upon the first turn of the crank, I noticed it was far smoother than the old red-handled one I have been using. In fact, it was just smooth. I did have in my head that it would somehow go through with almost no resistance and I have to say that there was some but overall it was pretty easy. After making it the full 360 degrees around and skillfully avoiding having it knocked out of my hand by two very determined but not very helpful kitties, I wondered how this magnetic lid remover was going to work. So I unlocked the handle and removed the can opener but to my surprise, the lid didn't come off. After further inspection, I realized the magnet isn't part of the cutting mechanism and is instead on a different surface. I snapped the magnet to the lid and it stuck right to it. It worked, but it was a bit awkward and I got tuna water on the crank. I have to say, it was probably 50% easier than taking it out by hand but putting that in context, removing a can lid without a magnet is a pretty simple task so even though it was helpful, I'd rate it more of a gimmick for anyone with enough dexterity to open a can with a manual opener in the first place. Since its an easy feature to miss, I'll probably smugly show it to my girlfriend just to cement my place as knowing about more useless things than she does, we'll talk about it for 10 seconds and neither of us will think about using it again. After rinsing it off and putting it in the drawer where the old one lived, I noticed it takes up a lot more space but it still fits. Now I sit and listen to two hobo-kitties happily shlurp and shlomp and chomp their participation reward while I finish up this review. 4 stars.

It works!
I have developed severe basal joint arthritis and could not work a hand can opener anymore. I purchased the best reviewed electric model — it was huge and finicky. Then I tried this can opener at my friend's house. It requires much less pressure and effort both to hold and turn. I'm happy!

Zyliss ZYLISS️ Lock N' Lift Can Opener
Update 8/25/24 I had an idea to try to turn the handle in the opposite direction from one I always use. And it worked great. I can do that. So, it still works. I am not replacing it yet. Update 8/24/14 This can opener has finally started to break. It lasted since 4/10/20. It opened about 2 cans a week on average. I feel if I was paying attention to the task at hand, and not allow it to "stray" from the path close to the edge, toward the center, and not rush it, it might not have broken. Certainly they could make an opener that one could use mindlessly, and not cause it to break. But this one lasted over 4 years. And with care, could maybe last more. Updated review, 4/3/22 I have this can opener for about 2 years now. It still works the same as new: smooth, no sharp edges, easy to use. I attribute longevity of this product to the design: it locks it self before you turn the nob. This causes it to stay in grove, and not to take a bad trajectory which would cause it to bend and spread out and stop working right. It is not obvious that this product would work well and last a long time, from just looking at it. It looks like it is made from plastic. I really appreciate that someone took care to design for longevity. This is rare in our day and age. Companies seem to design for definite delayed demise instead. Old review, 4/10/20 I had ordered a different one before, it worked well, but it broke. So I searched for something more rugged. I could not find what I was looking for. So I went with reviews, and bought this one. It is sweet. While it does not impress due to its plastic looks, it works very smoothly. And it locks it self into place, before one starts cranking on it. I believe this feature should make it last longer. Because my old one got messed up because I was not able to hold it completely shut, and caused it to choose a bad trajectory, which caused it to bend, despite the fact it was all metal. So good design in plastic, I feel will last longer then bad design in metal. And this one is much smoother and easier to crank then my previous all metal one.

Undependable quality
I bought one of these can openers because it's hard for me to turn the knob. I absolutely loved it. It was so easy to use and didn't hurt my hands at all. Somehow it got lost, or accidentally tossed. I ordered another one and it is terrible. It is SO hard to squeeze the handles and turn the knob. And the locking mechanism doesn't work as well. I'm looking at an electric can opener now.

Love this - bought 3 of them in total...
This is sturdy, comfortable in my hand, locks in place, and compact in size. The little magnet doohickey at the bottom that is supposed to lift out any lids that are cut off completely is almost NEVER used, but when I have used it, it has worked ok - not 100% of the time, as I think the magnet is not that strong. But, I hate the standard can openers because my hands are rather small and I find the ones that are thin coated metal or all metal are very difficult to handle for me because they HURT my hands terribly. the Zyliss one has been the go to for me for the last several years because it is easy and comfortable and the locking mechanism is perfect. I have three not because any of them broke, but because I have two at home, and one for the cottage. Actually, it was 4 - but the mother in law got rid of one, because she thought it was extraneous at the cottage and kept the old style metal one that hurts my hand. But they tend to pick up fast food and stuff when going to the cottage and really, I am the one that does actual cooking - so the good utensils no get kept with our stuff separately. If you have small hands, or losing grip strength, this can opener is fantastic.
