ozeri pro scale review
I decided I wanted a second small digital food scale to keep at my office. I really do not give much thought to the world of digital scales, I just wanted a duplicate of the one I already own. However I have no idea of what I already own. It is white and has a clear plastic bowl and can measure in grams which the gram thing is my only requirement. Since I have no idea what I already own I simply typed digital food scale and up pops a list of food scales. I quickly glance down the list and do not see what I already own. However this Ozeri caught my eye because it is visually appealing. I stopped long enough to think about the scale I own and decided that I never actually use the bowl that came with it, I generally throw that on the side and start by putting the container I am going to use to take my food with me on the scale, zeroing the scale with that container, and then put in the amount of food I am aiming for. So I thought what the heck this Ozeri looks good, I don't need a bowl and the price is right. Point and click done. A couple days later I am unpacking my Ozeri scale in the kitchen and my wife calmly asks the obvious question that wives are prone to ask, "what do I possibly need with a second scale"? I explained my thought process, suffered through the mandatory eye roll, and then she states well if you are taking one to work you are taking the old one because this one looks much better sitting on the counter. So with that I have a brand new Ozeri scale on my kitchen counter and I love it. Side by side with other one it measures the exact same weight of various objects I placed on them, the buttons and display are much larger and it works great. Plus it has an off function to satisfy the OCD tendencies of my beloved and it still has the auto off to satisfy my need to use it and push it back in the corner without thinking about it (my inner laziness). It does everything I wanted, looks great, and was a good price. All in all I am very satisfied. I have never heard of this company before but I would use them again. They managed to dress up a no frills product, add some functionality, and catch my eye with the form factor and design. Do not get me wrong, we are talking about a 20 some dollar scale here, it is black and chrome plastic, so if you are expecting real metal and real chrome plating for 20 something dollars keep looking, but if you like getting exactly what you pay for in function and having it look great besides then this is the buy.

Ozeri Pro Digital Kitchen Food Scale, 1g to 12 pounds
The Ozeri Pro Digital Kitchen Food Scale at $12.22 is a great little scale for a small price. Frankly, I was tempted to give this scale only one star just so people would read the review. I really don’t trust the Five Star Reviews anymore, too many are obviously baloney. The Kitchen Scale reviews are also loaded with Five Star fluff from people who gave their “honest review” after getting theirs free. After pouring over the scale reviews for a couple of hours and taking note of what seemed to be unscrupulous five star reviews when balanced against the honest one star reviews, I chose this one And I Paid For Mine. Let’s get to the scale. It measures in grams, kilograms, ounces and pounds. It has a tare function. It weighs to the nearest whole gram (no tenths), and this scale is right on the money. The capacity is stated to be 12 pounds. I have a laboratory grade Ohaus triple beam scale that I used for four trials. On the Ohaus, I weighed an item that came in at 147.3 grams and the Ozeri gave me 147 grams. Next item weighed 294.7 grams on the Ohaus and the Ozeri came in at 295 grams. The next item weighed 2,146.4 grams (4.7lbs.) on the Ohaus and the Ozeri measured 2,146 grams. Finally, I put the item that weighed 2,146 grams on the Ozeri and tared it, giving me a reading of zero and then put the 294.7 gram item on top and the Ozeri read 295 grams. It doesn’t get any better than that, folks. It’s perfect to the nearest gram and the tare function works perfectly. I am very happy with this scale. I almost bought the EatSmart Precision Elite Digital Kitchen Scale with the 15 lb. capacity offered on Amazon for $36.95. The fact that it cost almost three times as much was not relevant for me. What was relevant was the whole slew of One Star Reviews from customers that were very unhappy with both it’s accuracy and reliability. The real deal killer was Winter Solstice’s one star review that drew 31 comments! He hit the nail on the head when he alleged that a good number of the Five Star Reviews appear to be phony as fur on a fish. Many of the comments had been removed. WTF? Shouldn’t we be privy to all the comments so we can all make our own informed decisions? What’s going on here? Many of the comments to Winter Solstice’s review basically accused him of sour grapes, so I took a look at his other reviews. Winter Solstice seems to be a bit of a tree-hugging vegetarian that eats junk food and watches a lot of movies, but he also likes tools so is okay in my book. He also had a good mix of reviews and appears to be a very honest reviewer. I believe him, and was left with a deep suspicion of the EatSmart brand and its 8,000 reviews(!). It was already in my cart, and I deleted it. Then there was the Five Star Ozeri Review where Jackrbike contrasted the Ozeri against the EatSmart Precision Pro (EATSMART VS. OZERI SCALES--WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IS. . .). THAT review drew 21 comments. I look at Jackrbike’s other reviews and found a good mix of one to five stars reviews – another honest reviewer. Jackrbike’s thoughtful review tipped the scales for me (pun intended)! Wow, Amazon reviews have become a bit of a minefield, but the bottom line is this Ozeri is a very good scale at a good price; you’ll be happy with it.

Consistent measuring, easy to use - why pay more?
This is my first digital kitchen scale, so this is a significant upgrade from my old spring-based w/ plastic needle model. I took a chance on this one because of the affordable price, and I am very happy with my purchase. The "tare" feature allows me to subtract the weight of the container, giving me an accurate measure of the contents. The weighing surface is large enough to accommodate a cereal bowl easily, while still being able to read the large display. I even weighed a whole butternut squash on the scale the other night. I have tested accuracy by shifting things around (from one side to the other, etc.) and always get consistent measurings. I feel pretty confident that my results are accurate. In addition, the slim profile of the scale makes it easy to store in a drawer or above a canister in a cabinet. The display is large, so I can see the numbers easily. It measures in pounds, ounces, and grams, and you can toggle through the settings on the fly. Overall, it's a great little scale, and so far, it works perfectly for my kitchen measuring needs. Why pay more?

Great little scale for a great price
I needed a food scale to start measuring my food portions as I've started to track my calories. Some foods, such as meats, really need to be measured in weight and not volume. I purchased this particular scale because I wanted something accurate and inexpensive. So far, this scale is both! I can't entirely speak to it's accuracy as I've not yet tested it with known weights (I may test this out later and will update if I do). I liked that it would measure in increments as low as 0.05 oz. While I don't need this measure of accuracy for food, I do appreciate it if I need to weigh mail for postage! I also like that it will weight up to 12 lbs! It seems to be just the right size. I don't have a lot of extra counter top space, but I let this sit out on my counter top and it hardly takes up any room. The buttons are not hard to reach nor is the display hard to see if you use a bread plate sized plate or bowl to measure your foods. It comes with a nice manual. I read through it once and haven't had to refer back to it to use the scale. It's simple to use. I'm very pleased with my purchase and I would recommend this to friends and family if they were looking for an inexpensive yet accurate food scale.

Great addition
I have used this scale for a few weeks now and found it to be a great addition to my kitchen. I bought it mostly to measure green coffee beans for roasting, but I have found myself using it for other things as well. This is actually the first time I've had a food scale for my kitchen, and I am surprised that I found as many uses for it. Needless to say, I will always have a scale from now on. As for the product itself, the quality seems excellent for the price. I keep it out on one of the counters and it blends well with the rest of my appliances; certainly not an eyesore. Functionality is very simple and easy, exactly as it should be. I was impressed with the accuracy. For this price point, I wasn't expecting much and would have been happy with a close approximation, but the Ozeri Pro exceeded my expectations. The measurements have been spot on for all the things I measured, mostly validated with product weight labels. I am very happy with the purchase, and for anyone reading this thinking about this product for everyday kitchen use, it would be an excellent choice.

Once you get started weighing, you will not go back to measuring. It makes a huge difference.
I purchased these for our church to measure out cheeseballs we make every year as a fund raiser. They worked wonderfully. The numbers were big and you can place a plate on the scale and zero (tare) it out so you can simply remove the plate and replace it with another when it becomes too sticky with cheeseball residue. This way all the cheeseballs are the guaranteed 10 oz and no one can complain. We probably put these scales through a year's normal use in the matter of 2 months and they are still working normally. Very pleased. If you are a bread maker and don't have some of these scales, you need to invest. This has made the single best difference in the outcome of my loaves of bread. Through experimentation I discovered that 1 cup of flour is not equal to another cup of flour in weight. I have now changed all my bread recipes to read ingredients in grams instead of cups and ounces etc. What a huge difference this has made. I even measure my cookie dough now to make uniform sized cookies. It really is addictive. Weighing instead of measuring. I weigh all sorts of things now, not just kitchen items. Let your imagination be your guide. It is fun.. And a very necessary tool for diabetics and dieters.

VERY flawed design
FYI, this is my first 1 star rating ever on Amazon, but I feel like people need to know about this scale, especially when it comes to weighing something that's 3LBs or more and occupy a lot of surface area. I ordered this scale to weigh small boxes for the post office. I upgraded to this scale because of the high weight limit on this, 12lbs versus my previous scale Kitrics nutrition scale, which worked wonderfully for me, but unfortunately only had a 5lb limit. As soon as I received the Ozeri, I can tell it has a very flawed design, causing severe instability. First of all, the weighing plate is very small, only 5 inches in diameter (Note, this is DIAMETER not radius). Second, the scale is ROUND as you can see from the picture. Not only that, the backside is curving inward toward the center!! (whoever designed this scale should have been fired) This creates an empty spaces between the top edge of the weighing plate and the bottom part of the scale that's touching the floor. So basically if you put a single finger on the back edge of the plate, and apply even the tiniest amount of pressure, the scale will start rocking (like a rocking chair, where the front part of the scale will literally be tilting and off the floor). This means if you put anything off center on this scale, especially toward the back, the scale will be very unstable. What's more, whenever the scale gets rocked a couple of times, it auto shuts off! So now you have to restart the scale and try to balance the item again. Normally this would not be a problem for a scale designed to weigh something 1 lb or less, where the object would most likely be staying at the enter of the plate. But for a scale designed to withstand 12 lbs, I would have assumed it would be quite a bit bigger and QUITE MORE STABLE! So when I needed to measure a box maybe 12x12 inch on the bottom, I have no choice but to put the box toward the front of the scale, in order to avoid the "rocking" back part. This creates another problem where the box completely blocks the view of the screen. This would have not been a problem on my Kitrics, where the scale is actually RECTANGULAR, and there is no "empty space" toward the back of the scale. My conclusion: this scale is good only for anything that's small and can be easily contained on the plate itself. For anything bigger and with a wide base, it's almost impossible to use this scale.

YOU'LL LOVE IT!
Let's see, here are some of the things that I love about this scale... 1. Color matches my black on stainless appliances so I can leave it on the counter in my kitchen and it looks stylish and sharp. 2. It comes with batteries. I know, but I am pinching pennies so every little bit helps. 3. It "tares" your containers, so in English that means you put a bowl or whatever on the scale, push it again, then it zeroes back out so you can put whatever it is you're measuring without including the weight of your container. Some scales come with a built in bowl. Hard to clean, and you don't need it with this one. 4. Large digital numbers make it easy to read. Because I'm not getting any younger. 5. Easy to figure out without reading the booklet. See comment above. 6. Measures in grams. ounces, etc. So you can weigh your cereal, and be accurate if you are on Weight Watchers like me. Before I got the scale, I would measure out a level cup of cereal. Now I weigh it, 56 grams. And that apparently is a bit less than a level measured cup. Go figure. 7. Weighs up to 12 pounds. So now I don't have to go to the post office to weigh my packages or envelopes before I apply the appropriate postage. Or, you can weigh your puppy. Or whatever. In conclusion, this is the scale I never realized that I had always been needing. Awesome. Buy it!
