Better than expected!
I have been pleasantly surprised by this Garden of Life Vegan Protein Powder. Initially I made it up as directed on the packet, and was concerned that it was going to take some getting used to: it seems very rich. It also tasted a bit like under-salted soup so I started trying different additions blended in (cooled slightly where necessary before being added to the powder). 2/5 : 1 scoop powder, water, 1/4 tsp salt 3/5 : 1 scoop powder, 1/2 poblano pepper (raw), 1/4 tsp salt 3.5/5 : 1 scoop powder, 3 oz carrot and 1 oz cabbage (boiled until soft), 1 tsp onion flakes, 1/4 tsp coriander, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp lemon juice 4/5: 1 scoop powder, 4-5 oz broccoli steamed/boiled, 1/4 tsp salt 4/5: 1 scoop powder, 1 zucchini (sliced and roasted), 1/4 tsp salt 4.5/5: 1 scoop powder, 1/2 yellow pepper (roasted), 1/4 tsp salt, 1 small clove garlic I am using the shake to help me lose some weight, and I have not felt hungry, and the variations are keeping me from being bored, so that's good. The shake is a protein shake and is very low on fiber, so I am looking to rectify that with soy curls which are high fiber for the calories. I do recommend this product.

The only protein powder I've used for years (Unflavored, unsweetened)
Can't say enough good things about this protein powder. I've been using the unflavored, unsweetened version for years and will never switch to another. The flavor is so neutral/pleasant that I can even drink it mixed into just water alone. Doesn't require flavor to make it palatable or disguise anything. I put it into a tumbler with a mixer ball and vigorously shake, and it dissolves easily. If you like flavor though it will mix easily into anything you want. I've dissolved it into almond milk and oat milk as well, including adding chocolate syrup for fun. It's versatile. Comes with the scoop as well of course. (figured that would be obvious but apparently there are various powdered supplements that don't provide one. who knew.) It's a high quality product and alleviates hunger and gives me energy every time I drink it. Never had any negative reactions to speak of.

Acquired taste...
I purchased this product because of the solid nutrition profile (at least for my diet and sensitive GI system). When I tasted it the first time, I was VERY disappointed, and had to laugh when I came back to write this, and saw the review stating the person would rather eat their own garbage than have another bite of this - I felt the SAME way! (I actually came up with a whole list of things I would rather eat, which I think included a good portion of the contents of my cats' litter box, but had not thought of my own garbage!) It was disgusting, and I had a terrible time getting it to go into solution evenly. However, I stuck it out because it does have a lot of protein for few calories, is full of good stuff I never eat, AND has yet to upset my GI system...which is saying something. I am now halfway through my 2nd can and I love this stuff! For those purchasing the product for the first time though, I would suggest: * Mixing the powder with something with a bit of heft and flavor to it. I still think it's gross with plain milk, but chocolate milk is palatable. Yogurt is better; I really like it in Silk's Fruit & Protein juice/soy milk product and it is great in smoothies. * Stir, stir, stir, and stir some more: it takes some effort to get this to dissolve. I like using a plain spoon (versus one of those special mixing tools, or a shake mixer with a little mixing disc in it), so I can squish any chunks and scrape the sides easily. Shaking doesn't seem to work - the stuff breaks into little tiny chunks and hides in there...until you are eating/drinking along and then have to chew a bite of mostly powdery stuff, which is pretty gross. It dissolved fine in the blender, though. * Letting it sit for a minute or two after it is all stirred in but before you eat it. I think this does wonders for the texture. At the beginning, I could barely stand this stuff, even thoroughly (I thought) stirred into flavored yogurt. I started adding fruit to disguise the texture and flavor, which brought it up to palatable... now I could lick the bowl clean even once I've eaten all the fruit. I'm not sure if it is truly an acquired taste or just applying the techniques listed that make it better, but I genuinely like this and will be sticking with it. I gave it a 4-star review because it is kind of messy...no matter how carefully I scoop I still spill some, which is a little maddening.

The Closest Thing to a Raw, Vegan Meal
I think I've tried all the vegan protein powders out there. This is the first one that I didn't have to "settle" for. There are others that I like, but this is the only one that is truly smooth, and can be mixed with water, almond milk, or whatever without using a blender. I was amazed at that. Other reviewers comment on the taste. It is one you have to get used to. Americans are addicted to sugar, and to food, in general. For this reason our taste buds are compromised. We have been led by the media to believe that sugary cereals and other highly processed "foods" are "healthy." It is my understanding from all the recent research that sprouted beans, nuts and grains are full of life and health, particularly when they are "raw." I was pleasantly surprised by the ingredient list for this product when I found many sprouted foods. This powder is easy to digest, and I believe the nutrients are most likely easily absorbed and utilized because of the digestive enzymes and probiotics. I have trouble with my digestive tract, and I had no problems at all after drinking this shake. I generally like to use unsweetened almond milk and peppermint oil in my shakes. As far as I know the peppermint oil helps with digestion. And I like the taste. I'm glad I found this powder. I plan to take it camping, along with dried foods. The price is great through Amazon, and I always know that Amazon's customer service is unbeatable. They are one of the only companies I know of that allows you to talk to a person who is truly concerned about your satisfaction and will do anything necessary to prove that quickly. Thanks for carrying this product at such a great price. Update: I've tried even more brands since I wrote this review. I always come back to this one. Not for the taste, but for a few other reasons: 1. It's only 1 point on Weight Watchers. 2. I can always digest this, without any bloating or abdominal cramping at all. 3. I add my coffee to it for an iced coffee drink because the acid in coffee hurts my stomach and bladder. This product must be alkaline because it seems to neutralize the coffee acid. No stomach or bladder pain. The taste is not great and it's gritty. I put one packet of stevia in it. It's worth it to feel so good and it's so easy to stick to a Weight Watchers using this. I will keep buying this.

Integrity of product.
About their claim of 17g protein per scoop- Vegan proteins use ingredients like hemp, rice, and pea because they are among the highest protein sources of plant foods. Whey protein is an extract of protein. Not a whole food. i.e.; isolate" & "concentrate". So plant proteins are more rational because, while ones like I mentioned contain plenty of protein, they are also more alkaline, nutritionally-balanced, whole foods. Especially when ingredients are mixed like hemp, rice, pea. Then the complete range of proteins are present. They also do not contain lactose and therefore are not mucous forming in the body. But Whey protein should still be a higher quantity of protein because it is an extracted, purified protein. This product is also light and airy, which would also lend to less protein per scoop, unless the nutritional facts stated were based on scoops that were packed-in to the scoop. But it would take a lot of experimentation to yield a mix of plant proteins which were more protein-abundant than whey protein. It's not possible and I would like to see proof. I don't think any one plant or sprout is proven to contain enough protein to out-compete whey-isolate or concentrate as far as higher protein quantity. And using more ingredients, as is listed, would only limit their ability to have such a high amount of protein, but it would balance and complete the protein as plant proteins are used in conjunction with others to fill in where others are lacking. Another review states: "The serving size of this product in no way contains 17g of protein. It is an incredibly small scoop of very floury powder, and 17g of a whey protein would take much, much more powder. A raw fibrous protein should take MORE powder than a concentrated protein like whey, not less. Supplements are not regulated by the FDA. The owner of this company is a quack with an online mailed degree, and has been sued before. Please be careful when throwing money away on expensive, fake supplements. You are essentially digesting some sort of sugared flourlike powder. Raw fiberous protein is not floury! I am absolutely positive this product is faking its ingredients. The allergic reactions from people using this product only support my claim. Someone with a science lab should test this product for protein content. I guarantee it would fail." So I am sketched out and will go with Life Basic's Plant protein or MRM Veggie Protein. Both taste great, the former being especially amazing in the vanilla flavor. like an vanilla chai coffee kind of flavor.

Great for smoothies
After using Garden of Life's Raw Meal powder for awhile, I switched to their Raw Protein powder because it has fewer sugars (according to the label, less than 1 gram per serving). To me it seems to be a great product. But it doesn't taste good in water alone. So don't even try to drink it in water. Even in juice, it will probably be rather nasty tasting. Instead put it in a smoothie. I currently make the following smoothie almost every day: 1 scoop Raw Protein Romaine lettuce or spinach or kale -- a big handful of leaves, maybe more 1 or 2 bananas 6 frozen strawberries 2 - 3 tablespoons frozen blueberries 1 - 2 frozen beet slices (improves the color) 6 ice cubes about 1 cup rice milk (use enough to keep it from being too thick) 1 teaspoon almond butter (improves the texture) 1 teaspoon maca powder 2 - 3 tablespoons dried goji berries 1 teaspoon vanilla extract tiny amount of stevia powder (less than 1/4 tsp) for sweetening Blend it all thoroughly until smooth. This makes about three tall glasses. I drink the whole thing and love it -- the taste is delicious, and I think anyone would like it, not just raw food / vegan / granola crunchers. If you decide to try this and like it, it's worth buying a couple of fresh beets, slicing them into chunks and storing them in the freezer in a simple cheap plastic canister with a lid, so you can take out a few chunks when you make the smoothie. When I run out of one or more ingredients I make it without the missing item or I add something else I might have (cucumber is a good addition). You can reduce the recipe to just bananas, strawberries (or other frozen berries), lettuce, ice cubes, Raw Protein and maybe some sweetener (try an artificial sweetener if you don't have stevia) and water or milk, and it will taste great. Just don't add broccoli!

Raw Protein (if ur deployed and w/o a blender, i suggest u look for a different product)
I bought this because of all the great reviews that it received. Many people said that with soy milk it tastes just fine so I decided to order it. I have tried it in soy milk, chocolate soy milk, and in my oatmeal. It gave all 3 a very gritty, chalky tastes. In the soy milk and oatmeal it was not good at all, in the chocolate soy milk the chocolate hid the chalky taste a little bit but it was still very gritty. I wish I had a blender to be able to make it into a smoothie because I'm sure it would taste just fine like that, but unfortunately I am deployed right now in Afghanistan and do no have a blender out here...=/...I believe I will stick to the other protein powders I have out here and just take this one back home with me and wait until I have my blender to try it again. If anyone has any recommendations as to how to make it tastes better w/o having a blender to use, i would really like to know because the product is super good for you, i just can't seem to get past the chalky taste... Thanks RAW Protein - 662g - Powder

Fantastic value
I'm a pescatarian and dairy-free so I was looking for a plant-based protein powder without any animal by-products. I compared at least 50 different products, no joke, and this one has everything I wanted. There were of course other good options but they were more expensive and weren't different enough to justify the price gap. I chose the unflavored version and it's definitely that. Putting it in water without anything else is like drinking mildly chalky water, but it's not thick if blended well and is easy to drink. I took the advice on the back of the label and mixed it with unflavored almond milk and it was a huge improvement! I took it a step further and blended it with my marine collagen, a handful of blueberries and a scoop of peanut butter. So delicious it feels like a treat everyday. I've ordered other products from "Garden of Life" and they have all been excellent quality with no fillers or artificial ingredients. I also enjoy their eco-conscious business stances and commitment to sustainability. Recommend!

A very clean and digestible protein powder. Excellent in overnight oats.
My favorite protein powder. Zero horrible sweeteners and flavorings, and mixes in very nicely with overnight oats.
