Practice makes perfect
Bought this AS level maths exercise book for less than a fiver second hand. It was in good condition- no torn pages or handwritten notes on side, etc. I took it on holiday and covered a page or two every day. Managed to complete all the exercises mostly unaided, but occasionally with help from ChatGPT (I am self-taught). The exercises get progressively harder but the sections are the same as the textbook, so it's easy to refer to the latter if you'e unsure of solving the problem/s. Do note that there are a number of errors (from minor typos to wrong answers!) so if your answer is 'wrong' but you are convinced it's correct, re-check your solution or ask someone else (teacher, tutor, ChatGPT) to check. The challenge sections (Bronze, Silver, Gold) are quite fun but some 'Gold' questions are unlikely to feature in exam as they could take too long to solve (or maybe that's just me). The most useful section is at the end, where you are given 90+ exam style questions to answer. They are unordered (as in exam), so you have to be quite knowledgeable of the different methods and techniques to employ in solving a problem- it's amazing how quickly you forget what to do after a couple of G&Ts on holiday! Update Jan 2026. I'm currently working towards AS maths exam being held in May 2026. I'm using the exercise book second time around and the pages are getting a bit frayed and the spine has split. In retrospect I now think some of the exercises are probably not challenging enough for the exam, so I think doing past papers from as many boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE, etc) should be your next step. There are loads of these online, so it's fairly easy to test yourself and there are a couple of YouTube channels that walk through past papers.
