Mine came in a box, wrapped in thick brown paper. Idk if they still ship them the same way because I bought mine a few years ago. Hope this helps.

What kind of paint is ideal for these masks?

I think acrylic paint would be best, because the material is kind of like paper mache. You might want to seal/glaze it after painting it as well, to make the colors last longer.
