Does the job it's designed for.
I purchased this as I had just bought a new laptop and wanted something other than my lap to perch it on and this was a low-cost alternative. It came ready assembled, except for the mouse mat. An easy job you might think, just to screw in a bolt. You would be wrong. When I used the plastic “washer” supplied with the stand, the mouse mat just spun around to the point where I was considering sending back. I looked for another bolt the same gauge, the only one I had was too short to go through the leg of the stand, so was equally useless for the purpose. Luckily, I had a washer in my toolbox, so the issue was resolved, but the manufacturers should have supplied an actual washer with the product, as they clearly know one is required, but instead give you a useless thin plastic disc instead. The said mouse mat is a little too far back for my liking, and although there appear to be 3 interchangeable holes for the screw to go into, only the middle one can be used for that purpose.Although the surface area of the desktop appears quite wide, and you may think it is therefore suitable for 17” laptops, it is NOT actually designed to be used for anything wider than a 15.5” wide laptop case, as the leg mechanism eats into some of the flat shelf space, and the distance between both legs is 41cm or 15.5” wide. If you did try to put a larger laptop onto this stand, it would be balanced very precariously on the two rounded side parts at the front and the end of the shelf area at the back, so there’s a good chance your computer would fall off sooner or later. If you remove the mouse mat you can fold up the stand again for storage, and it takes up very little space, which is a bonus when you live in a small area as I do, however it also means that you have to put the mouse mat back on each time if you wish to use it.It is lightweight, so I’m not sure how sturdy and long lasting this is going to be, I was going to give it 4 stars, but decided that would be unfair to downgrade it on problems it may face in the future. If I run into problems, I shall amend my review later. If I could do though, I would probably only give it 4.5 stars based on the washer issue. It does seem fairly stable, certainly at lower heights, but I admit I would probably be too scared to use it too high in case the mechanism gave way and the laptop fell off.For the money I think it's decent, and for the amount of time I will actually use it, I think it is perfectly fine, however if you are looking for something more heavy usage, I would probably spend a bit more money on a more heavy duty one, purely because this one does have a feeling of fragility, probably due to the light weight materials it is made of.
