more than half my cans sprayed blotches and even sprayed liquid paint. several wouldn't spray at all
Worst and most disappointing product I have ever purchased from amazon, I should have gone in depth on the reviews out there, as all I experienced is apparently not all that uncommon. I guess I'm an idiot for assuming a paint supplier would be competent at putting paint into cans.So I was using primer gray, followed up with cast iron. I was following the fairly picky instructions religiously. Headers taken down to bare metal, I used electrolysis, to ensure even the stuff wedged back into the 4-1 were sparkling. Scrubbed with paint prep, mineral spirts first, then acetone. This things were not merely clean, but sterile. I had been warned that if instructions were not followed, paint would fall off. Several shipping delays, which tracking showed the paint arriving in my city and leaving it again, twice I think, before finally showing up a good week late meant instead of using my outdoor spray booth, I had to build a booth in my living room. So I did that. cleaned my metal once again, and started painting. You have to apply each coat within ten minutes of the last, so with a pair of headers, and then another 16 pcs of exhaust, I started with the headers. The first can of primer would not spray cleanly, it sputtered, sprayed propellant without paint, blotched. I messed with it for a few minutes, then realized I had already made the recoating time impossible. Took deep breath, cleaned headers with more mineral spirits and acetone. Tried next can of primer. It was fine, deep breath, coated header. looked at watch, noted that basically if I started at the front of the headers, moved to the collectors, I could simply recoat again at the other end. So I did so, two light coats, a medium coat, a light coat, picked up the colour, first can refused to spray at all. grabbed second can, got halfway through the first coat and sputtering. grabbed last can, it sprayed well, finished first light colour coat, second coat a medium coat and last light coat. I let the finished header dry, it looked great, but it had also consumed about 20$ in cleaner, and two cans of primer, and two cans of colour, simply because the cans would not spray! Do the math, and we have a well over 100$ bill for a single header to be painted. Also, I could not even start the second header, as I had only partial cans left, I would have to wait, several days, for more to arrive. More arrived. the primer worked fine, the two cans of cast iron both sputtered and blotched. I said screw it and just carried on, I had a paint booth in my living room, and the (sale priced) hedman headers now cost less than the paint covering them. I have never been so angry about a product before in my life. And when I went out onto the internet I quickly learned my experience is not unusual, and also that it seemed I was unlikely to receive much customer service either, as others in my situation were left hanging. I decided that instead of playing phone games with anyone, I would leave the worst reviews I could about the product, and make sure those reviews sting. If VHT wants to make the harm they've done me with their garbage spray cans, it starts at the value of five cans of grey primer, and 4 cans of cast iron, plus shipping. two or three cans were bought over the counter, but so what, we can just call it all at amazon prices, plus shipping. Then they can pay for the prep, since why did I prep at all for such lousy reports. The 40$ in pre taped plastic film, zipties, and 7foot long garden poles can go in there as well. I'm not going to bother with my time, which ended up being MANY hours, but while I won't bill them out for that, they can damned well either buy me stainless steel, already ceramic coated, brand new headers, or they can come get mine off my van, and get them custom coated (inside and out, meaning a dip coat) by anyone other than a user of VHT, and return them to me. On a rush, not planning to be without my vehicle longer than two days. Note that this is far less than this debacle cost me, my time is valuable, I turned down tradesman overtime hours paid at 80$ an hour needing to get my vehicle back on the road. That's a loss, and my time, and cancelling my social life for three important weeks, because of paint booths in my living room, and taking headers on and off and on and off, as worthless painting products arrived. In short, the paint itself seems fine, but the quality of the cans (and an number of reviews can be found previously from mine complaining about this) is so awful that it's honestly hard to believe. So don't believe it, but also don't buy it, for god's sake don't buy it
