Doesn't cover grays, but blends really well!
If you have mostly gray, you might have to either get a much darker shade or be ok with copper hair instead of brown. That being said, as someone with roughly 25% gray, this is a great alternative to permanent dye. While it doesn't actually cover my gray, it blends them really well so it looks like natural highlights instead. The chestnut brown gives grays a deep copper hue, rather than brown. On hair that is still pigmented, the henna is very conditioning and adds a lovely richness. Made my neutral brown hair look very warm. The conditioning effect lasts through quite a few washes. Downside is that it can be difficult to saturate all hair, and if you have a lot of hair, expect to be making more than a couple batches. Great natural alternative to dyes!

I wouldn’t recommend for making blond hair brown
I had a blonde ombré in my hair prior to using this henna and i was tired of having to keep up the blond so i decided to try and revert back to my natural color (medium brown). The top of my hair was a dark golden blond/light brown and this henna turned it into a beautiful medium brown that looks extremely natural and beautiful. I was afraid my hair would turn brassy and red since henna is usually made to color hair red but I was pleasantly surprised there were absolutely no unwanted red or orange tones. However, the blond bottom of my hair turned a not so great extremely ashy brown color. It almost had a greenish tint however it’s not actually green, just extremely cool toned. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this for hair any lighter than a dark blond. If you want to use this henna to turn your blond hair brown you should first start with a more orange or red henna and then once that has given your hair a warm base you can apply this on top. Overall it was my mistake to not do more research.

Great product for healthy hair
Rainbow henna has been a staple coloring system; it does no harm and gives a healthy shine. I’ve used this product for decades with positive results. The best review is how natural my coloring appears without a dyed look which is nice and natural . It works well for me.

Healthy hair dye
The colors in this product are beautiful and last for 4 to 6 weeks. Pure plant based--- no chemicals to damage hair or health. Wished I'd known about it years ago.

Nothing but a stinky paste.
First of all, I have dark blonde hair. This Henna smelled HORRIBLE. I mean it smells like a dead animal crawled into the container after it bathed itself in cooked spinach. I could have just held my breath and dealt with it, but the product didn’t even work. I have totally untreated hair, the growth I have now has never been dyed or anything, and while I followed the directions exactly, this did not color my hair beyond giving it a greenish tint that thankfully only lasted a day, but beyond the weird green tint it certainly did not dye my hair brown.

ChesNOT
I bought this because, after having had chemically dyed hair for over a year in red, I was ready to return to a color closer to my original (which is a Chestnut type color). Its been over 6 months now since I last dyed my hair and I chose Henna because I'm allergic to hair dye and didn't want to spend two days on Benadryl again. I thought I had followed the directions perfectly - but I think they were confusing. I was under the impression that adding tea would give my hair a browner color as I had been warned it could be more reddish, so I substituted black tea for water, added 2 T. of sweet almond oil and left it on my medium length hair for an hour. It was DARK. Very dark. While I succeeded in making it brown, in the end it stripped all the red from it completely, leaving a lack-luster, brownish brassy color which was about 2-3 shades darker than my normal hair color. I think maybe if I'd done it without any additives it might have been the color on the box, but then again I'm not sure as afterwards I learned that the indigo may potentially darken *further* as it oxidizes. Currently, I am currently trying to lighten it back to at least a medium brown and exploring whether I can tint it with red henna to bring back some color to it (like a dark auburn or something). The image is after following the instructions to strip with dish soap, using a mixture of coconut/olive oil, washing with BS and rinsing with ACV. It did let some of my highlights through after that and lost the brassy/green tinge. Hopefully that means the indigo won’t darken further, but I guess I’ll see. Those with more experience with Henna than me may be able to tell if adding the black tea would really have made it so different from the intended color but, as for myself, I can only say that it was NOT chestnut.
