CANUSA Basswood Carving Wood Blocks from Wisconsin USA. Whittling Wood Carving Set Contains Two Large and Eight Small Pieces

I'm relatively new to woodcarving and wanted basswood that experienced woodcarvers suggest instead of trying to learn using wood I have laying around and getting discouraged at the start. I'm glad I ordered this product. This was well worth the money as the wood's clear and the grain is straight. The wood is easy to carve and the size of the pieces is very manageable. After practicing on a few pieces I got curious and tried carving a piece of clear pine I had laying around....hands down this basswood is the way to go.

I am new to wood carving. These are a great price, the grain runs down the wood in the perfect way to whittle and it came WAY earlier than the shipping date. I have made some fantastic progress practicing on these blocks. The size is good to start, not too big, then it also includes a couple bigger blocks to carve figurines! Good buy. Very pleased.

My child wanted to take up whittling so we purchased some tools and this set of wood blocks. The blocks are nice, soft, and easy to carve. My only issue is they are pricey for what they are but it did save a trip to Home Depot which would have ended up costing us much more in random purchases just by walking through the store :-D

This basswood package contains some of the nicest basswood I've ever seen, and it's processed beatifully and carves just as well. Granted, I'm a "newbie" at carving, but I've been building wood aircraft models for more than fifty years; my first was a Douglas D-558 kit by Strombecker, so I'm not a "newbie" with wood. You're going to have to look really hard for a better basswood value than this!

I've tried a few kinds of wood now, and I have to say although the usability of basswood is limited, it is quite enjoyable to make things out of. It's soft and has NO KNOTS. This pack is also fairly cheap compared to others on amazon and eBay.

I bough these to start carving. The wood blocks came amazingly packaged. There was a small chip in one of the smaller blocks but it was easily carved out when I started working on my project so it posed no problem at all. Overall it was a great purchase and I will definitely be buying from this seller again.

Bought this and a whittling set for my 13 year old for Christmas. He's just beginning whittling, and this wood is perfect. Nice size and easy to whittle. He's made a knife and a little trophy.

As soon as I opened this package of basswood & the scent of timber filled around.. I was hooked, they are perfect for easy hold, smooth and as soft as ..well, soft as excellent basswood I suppose! One of these will turn into my 1st ever carved piece.. as this journey is just beginning! (67 yr old fe.. ) Maybe I can return here & post pic late.Earlier this week I checked on basswood at a craft chain store.. it seemed dry & old, lifeless..but this wood from here., makes me want to see what kind of critter will come out of it!
