The Complete Tommy & Tuppence Collection: The Secret Adversary, Partners in Crime, N or M?, By the Pricking of My Thumbs, and Postern of Fate (Tommy & Tuppence Mysteries Book 1)

This is Agatha Christie at her best! She may be the only author to date, who has created a team of detective spouses, and she's followed their adventures from their youth to old age. These books are wonderful on their own, but together, they are a true masterpiece! The reader gets to know both protagonists well and can't help but love them both. The chronology is fascinating, and Christie manages to weave previous adventures into new ones, providing a wonderful context for her readers. Finally, I highly recommend this series because it is very much ahead of its time: both characters are given the traits of intelligence, agility, and a spirit of true adventurousness. One thing I love is that, despite the periods in which these novels took place and were written, the female character is strong, independent, and Christie does not relegate her to the stereotypical role of the submissive female. Instead, Tuppence (the female protagonist) is often sharper, more dogged, often the first to be on the right track, and she frequently takes leadership roles, even tricking the male authorities at one point and proving her ingenuity and worth again and again. You will love this unique, fun, and clever team, and I don't believe there is anyone else like them.

Very much enjoyed the adventures of Tommy and Tuppence. The final book of the five, however, was rather rambling and tedious. It consisted mostly of meandering dialog that ran in circles until tying up neatly at the end. Hannibal, the faithful Manchester Terrior was a bright spot. The first four book were engaging and I enjoyed following the characters from first love to retirement.

Most Agatha Christie fans adore her Hercule Poirot mysteries. I do too. But I think the Tommy & Tuppence series is even better. The longer works in these books are thorough and logical; the way I see it A. Christie uses far too many shortcuts when wrapping up the Poirot mysteries. The T&T stories, on the other hand are better crafted, the red-herrings making sense and challenging the reader. Regarding the personalities of Tommy and Tuppence, they are funny and convincing (their banter is particularly good), and it's fun to follow their thinking in resolving the mysteries. The longer stories involving World Wars I & II (interspersed are shorter mysteries) are excellent as well as surprising. The very last mystery as a bit of a let-down and is the only story that rambles. It's worth the read anyway. It's interesting that the language of The Secret Adversary (my favorite of the stories) is quite proper, in keeping with the time period of WW I, while T&T mysteries Agatha Christie wrote in the forties and fifties is more modern. The Tommy & Tuppence collection centering around their makeshift detective agency and sinister foreign forces, and which follow the pair from callow youth to wise adult-hood, is really a pleasure to read. I highly recommend it.

Except for "Passenger to Frankfurt" and "Postern of fate" Agatha Christie never wrote a bad story. While the Tommy and Tuppence series doesn't equal her Poirot or Marple work it is still very good. She still ranks amongst the best writers in mysteries. Only Postern of Fate and Passenger to Frankfurt let one down. But hey! Give her a break! She was in her 80s when she write those. You try writing hundreds of stories' over 80 novels and five, or was it six great plays over fifty years. Only P.G. Wodehouse, Anthony Trollope & Edgar Wallace' came close to her quality and productivity. I say hear! Hear! for a great writer. This collection gives you a good glimpse into Agatha when she was in a playful mood. Be sure to buy it. Its worth it.

OK, these are just quaint little stories by one of the greatest authors ever. However, I find great fun in them! The only problem was with the copy of the book itself. There are so many typos, it made it a little difficult to concentrate. BUT, I paid .99¢ for it, so well worth it! If you're an Agatha Christie fan I do recommend it for some fun lite reading.

I just finished all five of the TOMMY & TUPPENCE Mysteries and what great fun. Agatha Christie was a very prolific writer. To think she could write two books at the same time just makes my head spin.

I started with Miss Marple. Then read all of Poirot. Tommy and Tuppence don't quite measure up but are well worth the time. Like everybody else, I think the first are the best and if you can only read one, read The Secret Adversary. The last two books definitely fall off and Postern of Fate was just plain bad. There is no real plot but she spends an endless words going nowhere. In the end they finally find what they were looking for for 300 pages but she never tells us what in it other than some vague papers identifying an even more vague group of fifth columnists. Anyway on with the remainder of Agatha's efforts.

I am a dedicated Agatha Christie reader and have all her hard copy books. I am now in love with my Kindle Fire and am trying to add the Agatha Christie books to it. The Tommy & Tuppence Complete Collection are a fantastic buy and they are stored all together on the Kindle for easy access. I would love to see more collections of her books to reduce the cost of buying them individually. You'll LOVE the Tommy & Tuppence and appreciate its cost. Tommy and Tuppence are terrific characters involved in mesmerizing and spellbinding adventures!

An excellent price for the full Tommy and Tuppence collection. Slight imperfections in the formatting do not materially affect reading.

Good product

Cosy armchair by the fire reading. Every story detailed and satisfying with well developed characters. Double spaced text layout in places distracting but not insurmountable.
