It is pretty sensitive
As other reviewers mentioned, it is pretty sensitive. You do need to separate the bundles quite a bit for it not to sense the current in the adjoining wire. That being said, this little device did save me from a nasty shock. I had a GFCI outlet that keep tripping in the garage. So I go to change it. Turned the breaker off, confirmed that the line is off with the tester. Then, for giggles, checked the load line. The giggles stopped. The idiot who wired the outlet, wired another line to the outlet. Which is why the outlet is sensing a fault. This outlet, in spite of being closest to the breaker box, is actually the last outlet for both circuits. Had I assumed that, just because the line is off that the load is safe, I would have given myself quite a shock when I go to disconnect the load side.

Good upgrade to the VoltAlert
I got one of these after my copycat VoltAlert died on me. Compared to the standard voltage pen device, this one has an LCD screen that indicates the voltage level and has different beeping patterns to indicate low and high AC voltage. This is quite handy when you want to quickly check whether a receptacle was wired correctly. For example, touching the pen to the right side of a plugged-in device causes the LCD to turn red with the beeping in quick successions (hot wire). The other side also lights up, but the LCD stays green with longer duration beeps (neutral wire). Since the receptacle is in the happy face configuration, I know the receptacle was wired correctly given that the hot wire was to the right side of the plug (shorter prong). This pen also has a high sensitivity mode that can detect much lower voltages, and I was able to get this to beep on DC 5V and DC 12V outputs coming from AC bricks. Given its sensitivity, the beeping can get a bit obnoxious if you are in an environment with a lot of power noise. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to turn the beeping off. That being said, I am only using this to check one or two outlets at any given time so the beeping doesn't bother me too much.I was also able to use 2xAAA rechargeable NiMHs with this device without issues, although the flashlight will not turn on when the voltage drops too low. You may want to use alkalines with this if you care for the flashlight, although I am guessing that a headlamp would be more helpful in these cases.

Fantastic and great sensitivity. Plus a light.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. The tester works. It works perfectly. Always test it on your skin/clothes by rubbing back and forth quickly to generate static electricity before usage. It should beep to confirm. The sensitivity is perfect. It tells me when a plug (or wire) is live, and then if I put into the correct live hole of the outlet, it tells me that's the live one. You'd be surprised how many houses are mis-wired.The LED light is also extremely helpful. Just because the breaker is off for the lights, doesn't mean the plugs aren't live. Always test the plug / box before working.

Buy fluke, santronic, flir.
I work in the electrical field, stupidly decided to try this off brand volt tick. It feels cheap, looks cheap. It fails to isolate which wire is hot. The button got stuck, but no worries the product fell apart in my tool bag. Do not settle when it comes to a potentially life saving device. Spend the couple extra bucks on a proven brand.

Great and reliable
Well I very much like this product. It is as described and it has dual function. When I first bought the tester I looked up the you tube video and it was very informative. I heard and read the reviews, from that I discovered that using the correct mode will prevent issues. In the mode that detects low voltage, the tester is very sensitive so it picks up hot right away before you even touch the wire. In the correct mode, the tester is fine. I have multiple testers and I always cross reference each one to check how good it works. This is a good tester and reliable. Please make sure that you test known live wires and get a feel for your tester before using it to detect hot wires. I always run a couple of practice test first, but so far no problem at all

Turned on twice. Shut off on its' own and would not turn back on
I think my headline says it all. It functioned fine the first two times I turned it on but soon would not turn on again. I swapped the batteries with new ones thinking that it came with bad batteries. No Luck. I returned the item. It also feels a bit cheap compared to other brands that I am familiar with.

THIS VOLTAGE DETECTOR WORKS NICE.. BUT I WOULDN'T BET MY LIFE ON A $13 DEVICE.
Even the world's best voltage detector doesn't always show residual voltage that can be present in an electrical system; so it's best to treat any damn wire as if it were hot. In the case of the VT02 A/C voltage tester, the manufacturer did improve the new (black) model, but I detect that the owner's manual needs improvement. The written English is broken, and the booklet is tiny and difficult to read.

It's a great product while working on AC current but not for DC scanning.
The product is really good in certain circumstances, for example when testing 110v ac or higher. But it doesn't work well with 24v dc. The description says it's meant for AC but it is not mention in title. Testing wires while working on HVAC was a bit difficult as the normal mode would not detect and the sensitive mode would alarm if near my skin or any word sometimes. But most of the time checking it two or three times would give an idea, either way it is better to check more than once.Overall it's a good product for AC voltage at least. The features like numbers if bar and LED color increases and changes accordingly are great. I wish the screen or light indication was on both sides.
