It was always hard to remove the screening basket (for cleaning); but on that last day, it simply wouldn't open.I called PowerGrind's customer service. They could not help me, nor would they honor the warranty because they said I bought it from an unauthorized dealer. (?) I called Amazon, and they gave me a full refund without any trouble. Thank you, Amazon!I replaced it with a much higher-end masticating juicer which was backordered for a long time. While I waited for that juicer, I bought an inexpensive Black and Decker juicer. So while I review the PowerGrind, I can compare it with the Black and Decker.The PowerGrind is more difficult to clean. The pieces are dishwasher safe, but they are large (larger than the pieces of the Black and Decker), and they fill the entire top of your dishwasher. If you handwash them, they are large and fill your whole sink and dish drainer. There are a lot of little nooks and crannies to scrub.The holes in the PowerGrind screen are a bit larger than the holes in the Black and Decker, therefore more food pieces get caught in it; and, therefore, and it takes longer to scrub clean. The screen (of either brand) has to be hand scrubbed even if you do put it in the dishwasher!Because the holes in the PowerGrind are larger, the juice will be pulpier -- though not objectionably so. If you care the strain the juice, you will get a lot of pulp out of it. Some people like that; some people don't. But it is nothing like the clear fruit juices you buy at the store (like Treetop or Welches). The resulting juice texture is much more like Odwalla or Naked.I thought the quality of the Power Grind juice was very good. It was not full of air bubbles, nor did it come out warm. The grinder did grind a lot slower than my less expensive Black and Decker juicer. (With juicers, slower is better.) The juice from the Black and Decker came out warmer and frothier (which is not good), but clearer (less pulp).Despite the Power Grind being bigger than the Black and Decker, the Power Grind's spout is lower. You cannot put a 16-ounce drinking glass under the spout of the Power Grind. You have to use a shorter container, which means you'll need to switch it out frequently, which is inconvenient.Neither of these juicers does well with soft foods like bagged salads, peaches, or strawberries or fibrous food like wheat grass; but I think that is true of all centrifugal juicers. Of the two, the Power Grind gets more of your soft food into your juice (as you want it). The Black and Decker sends almost all of your soft food straight into the pulp container (which is wasteful). The Power Grind tended to jammed up with soft or fibrous foods.For whatever reason, when I put orange and lemon rind through the Black and Decker, it made the juice taste bitter in a citrus-y way. That never happened with the Power Grind. As a result, I find I have to peel citrus before putting it through the Black and Decker. I did not have to peel it before putting it through the Power Grind.The Power Grind pulp is very dry and perfectly chopped. There is very little waste. The Black and Decker pulp contains whole green leaves (not even cut) and whole citrus segments, squished but not cut.The Power Grind does jam up. The Black and Decker never does. It is not difficult to clear the Power Grind when it jams up; but it is annoying and messy.I had no trouble with the Power Grind motor. The Black and Decker motor runs hot. It results in a warmer juice, and sometimes you can smell the hot-motor smell as you juice, which is not appealing.Something about the design of the Power Grind feed chute -- maybe the way it's angled -- resulted in a my dropping a lot of fruit pieces down into the already finished juice. Just annoying. Those pieces have to be fished out! For whatever reason, this does not happen with the Black and Decker, even though it has a much smaller -- annoyingly smaller -- feed chuteThe Power Grind chute has two compartments -- one for food and one for seeds; but that is not really necessary or useful. I would have much rather had just one larger chute.Nonetheless, for the price, I was perfectly pleased with the Power Grind. I'm sure it was just my bad luck that mine died on Week 5. Had it not died, I would have used it quite happily indefinitely. I did use it long enough to know that I like juicing despite the annoyances. It is certainly a low-end model, and that's a fine place to start if you just want to see how you like juicing. But this is no super-special machine (as the commercials indicate). It's a regular centrifugal juicer from a company that might not honor your warranty.For the price, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Black and Decker. Again, it's a starter model. It's not great. But it's perfectly good!Both were fine introductory machines. Now I'm looking forward to getting my masticating machine. Still on back order! ### ⭐ Does NOT work, worst juicer ever! *by R***O on Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2014* Unfortunately this juicer turned out to be a nightmare for me. I've had it for a week, and still not able to disassemble it for cleaning for the past 5 days. Each day when I come home from work I try again, hoping this time I'll be able to take it apart but after several hours of trying, my frustration level peaks and I go to bed pretty upset. After reading the reviews from other buyers, I see that I'm not the only one with the same problem. The center basket (blade) just will not come off. I contacted the customer service number and no one ever answers.. do they even exist?I bought this juicer because my oldest daughter bought it over a year ago through the Jay Kordich website and she has no problem juicing every day with it. She's the one who actually recommended it. Maybe the older models were better quality and these newer models are of less quality. Obviously something has changed and that's probably why Jay Kordich no longer sells this product. The number of hours I have spent trying to take this apart is just outrageous. I'm beyond frustrated. I bought 2, one for me and one for my youngest daughter. She was able to use it and take it apart for cleaning only 2 times, but now she's having the exact same issue as me and she hasn't been able to take it apart in the last 3 days. Her husband who is a technical guy, was not able to take it apart either.I just requested a refund and hopefully I can find a Juicer that's not as complicated as this one. Some of the previous buyers have not had any problems, but most of them have. Read all the reviews before you buy and then, buy at your own risk. You know what for the price, this gem is excellent. It can get a bit noisy , so I have it on a dish towel. I juice daily. I juice kale, all veggies and fruit. I have to peel ginger and oranges. Aside from that ..... I could not be happier. I am not sure where negative reviews stem from. I did not give a 5 star , because I never give 5 stars. I would and have recommended this juicer since it arrived. This is my first review. I think it needs a higher rating.
