Great CD

I recently watched on TCM the famous TAMI concert that is best known for The Rolling Stones following right after James Brown, both delivering the kind of performances that made them superstars. Well, Leslie Gore was also in that show. Hearing some of her famous hits again reminded me that those songs were among the best songs recorded in the early and mid-1960s. So I decided to get a Gore greatest hits album and chose "The Essential Collection". A very excellent record full of songs that are still excellent today. Gore had the magic and she shared it with us. My only regret is that I'm old enough to say I first heard these songs when they were first played on the radio! G. Richard Bozarth

A lady ahead of her times

A great compilation, if you like Leslie Gore! I would buy again.

One of the most underrated female singers ever. I love her voice and the lyrics to her songs. Back in the day, she sang about what most girls were going through with dating. The 1960's were a different time and boys seemingly made all the rules. This is just a GREAT CD to listen to! Glad that I purchased it.

This is one of my highway driving c/d's. I love the old songs and they are so easy to sing along on road trips. Enjoy a trip back to a more innocent time.

このＣＤに収録されてる曲の半分以上が先の読めない変なコード進行だ！(不協和音系ではありません) この頃の定番の「必ずヒットする黄金の循環コード」とは全然違います！一体何のメリットがあって アイドル歌手のポップソングをこんなにひねくれたコード進行にするのかが全く理解できません(笑) つい最近ビートルズの事を「元祖変態コード進行」と言ったばかりなのだが、これを聴いたら 考えが少し変わってしまった(以前からIt`s my partyが凄い曲だと思ってたのでこれを購入) 時代的には1963年以降なのでビートルズの1stアルバムより少し後なのだが、 この時点でアメリカの作曲家はまだビートルズを知らなかっただろうし、 ビートルズも1stの時点ではそんなにひねくれたコード進行ではないからだ。 (結局の所1番興味深いのは、ジョンレノンがこの曲を聴いたのかどうかという事) 一体誰がこんな凄い曲を作ったんだ？と思って作曲者のクレジットを見たらそれぞれ違う名前でした。 不思議です！まるで同じ人が作ったかの様な共通した「変態性」があるからだ。 となると作曲者よりもむしろアレンジを担当していた人間が凄いという事になる。 これは今こそ高く評価するべきではないだろうか。ロック評論家はこのレビューをパクって下さい！ レスリー・ゴーアなんて変態コード進行には興味の無いオールディーズ収集家しか聴かないでしょうから。

C'était rapide et très bon procuit

18 of her hits, some produced by Quincy Jones. Early feminist. It's My Party, Judy's turn to Cry, You don't own me, All my life and my favorite Marvin Hamlisch Sunnshine Lollipops and Rainbows. Tragically passed away too young. Very much recommended.

Lesley Gore non è certo una delle artiste americane più famose in Italia, ma la sua musica è godevolissima. Sicuramente famose sono It's my party (nota anche per la versione italiana intitolata La mia festa ed incisa fra gli altri da Richard Anthony) e You don't own me (anche in questa caso ci fu una versione italiana intitolata Va.. tu sei libero incisa nella nostra lingua oltre che dalla stesssa Gore anche da Isabella Iannetti e Dalida). Il cd è molto bello dal punto di vista artistico e la Gore può essere una riscoperta o una scoperta da parte di chi non la conosce ancora. Uno spaccato della musica americana anni '60 assolutamente easy listening. Consigliato.
