For my dog they are a little bit of a pain to take on and off just to go outside to play or potty but for me its worth it than spending $100s on allergy meds 4) i tried to leave them on for the whole day at first for her to get use to them and noticed she was panting HARD..checked her feet and they were burning up...they don't breath so i don't recommend keeping them on too long..dogs release heat from their feet thats why you see dogs in summer dipping their paws in water to cool themselves down. These, however, are not easy to get on a dogs' paws. Even stretching them (like you would a balloon) before putting them on did nothing. I was not thrilled about having something so tightly fitting around her leg, but I figured I'd give them a chance since they'd only be on for a short time and not used daily. I may have been able to get over the tight fit (I understand why this would be done to keep them in place), but the quality is ridiculous. After having them on for about 10 minutes, the included photos of the "bootie massacre" were the results. It was absolutely an indication that these would not work for us. We didn't even get one solid use out of them, let alone getting any sort of reuse down the line. One is 18lbs and the other is 10lbs. Both use the orange color. As new "boots", they are tight. You need to pull and stretch a few times as they are worn to make them a little bigger or flexible for your dog. Stretch them lengthwise. The cuff or opening you want to keep tight so they don't slip off. I have lost a few as they get old(6 months). My dogs have gotten accustomed to using these in winter and summer. No snow packed between digits and protects their feet from the salt which they will try to lick off. I recommend using these 100%. **Q: I have Shit-Zu, what kind of size should I get???** A: I have a Shih Tzu and the small fits her well. She is around 12 pounds. The medium was far too big for her and had to be returned, but the small is about right with a little extra room in case your Shih Tzu is bigger than ours. We worked with our vet to determine that it was a grass/weeds (spring/summer) weeds and grass allergy. We gave her medication (which did help) - but then I came across these. The first set I bought (Blue) was just a LITTLE tight - but within 3 days of me putting them on her for EVERY trip outside...the biting and licking were gone! I purchased another set (Purple) and BINGO! These fit very well (I do need to keep her nails reasonably short for the best fit). I am confused with people who say they are so hard to get on because we don't experience that at all - granted, the EASIEST is for two people - one lifts a paw while the dog is standing, the other slides the boot on. (They are easy also if the dog is laying on the couch - something my dogs are really into anyway!) However, I can get them on her by myself with relative ease. For allergy purposes they MUST be on for every trip out (yeah, when I'm tired it seems like a bit of a hassle - but if I don't put them on, I regret it when she licks!). During the height of the season, I also sometimes wipe off her legs above the boots when she comes in, using a damp cloth. Anyone who has a dog with paw allergies knows how minor doing this would be compared to the worry of endless licking, chewing and bleeding paws. :( One set has lasted TWO SEASONS. Not one tear. Occasionally she (or another dog) will step on one, and pull it off. The Purple color makes it easy for me to find it in the yard. I LOVE THESE THINGS!! I have NEVER had an instance of the top "cutting" the ankle (if it's that tight, the boot is too small, in my opinion). They are sturdy and do the job I need them to do!
