These are wonderful mashed potatoes
Most instant potatoes contain sulfites. Actually a lot of white things are sulfited to keep them from browning. Sometimes there are artificial flavors too. I use very few prepared food items--not because I want to do everything myself but because so many prepared items contain things I do not want to eat or feed to my family. Over the years I did often use instant mashed potatoes of one brand or another. But then when I became sulfite sensitive I needed to stop eating them. And it was sad to lose such a handy item which would keep on the shelf and that people liked and which could go with so many dinners. I am extremely happy that these potatoes are available--not just because of the convenience--and they are the MOST convenient instant potatoes I have every prepared--but because they are delicious. One note which may be important to some people on a severely salt-restricted diet is that the salt is included, so you have no option to reduce the amount or eliminate the salt. That said, the potatoes are definitely not excessively salty, and probably just fine for the vast majority of the population. I think they're perfect.

Great taste but watch the price
Purchased these a few days ago at $17 with Prime shipping. 2 days later, the package arrived. The individually packaged 8 person serving size (should feed about 4-5 in the real world) is great - no more box full of potato fluff sitting in my kitchen closet, waiting to explode on my floor if dropped. The day it arrived, I re-checked the price at Amazon - over $30...WTF that's a big increase. Next day, we tried the 'taters. As all the previous reviewers here have stated, they were great. Creamy and smooth just like my family likes it. Healthy ingredients, just like I like. Quick and easy to prepare. Current price with shipping (no longer prime and no free shipping) is $41. At $17, these are fantastic. At $41, it's crossed off my list. How do you justify a 241% price increase in under a week? Hopefully they'll restore the original price. I hate finding a great food that's too expensive to buy on a regular basis.

Good product that is just potatoes.
Love that these instant potatoes do not have any weird additives/preservatives in them...they are just potatoes. They are super easy to mix with water and dairy. I get the best taste by cutting the milk or half and half to 3/4 cup and adding a big dollop of sour cream. It does seem to take a little more hot water than the instructions call for to get them to the right consistency. I have been using these for several years and will continue to use them. The packets each make eight servings so they last two old people through several meals and they do not get a peculiar taste to them when stored in the frig for several days. I highly recommend.

EXCELLENT PRODUCT: Discontinued here, Discontinued at Costco
Comments I left at Costco.com also: Excellent product, DISCONTINUED: "Honest Earth All-Natural Creamy Mash, Made with 100% Real Idaho Potatoes" Bar code 02970052009 [by Idahoan Foods] with only 3 all natural ingredients: "Idaho potatoes, butter and sea salt". REPLACED (at Costco) BY inferior product "Idahoan Real Premium Mashed Potatoes" Bar code 02970052141 with 16 ingredients: "Idaho Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (coconut, sunflower),Salt, SUGAR,buttermilk powder, nonfat dry milk, butter (cream, salt), MONOGLYCERIDES, CALCIUM STEAROL LACTYLATE, NATURAL FLAVORS, ...SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE, SODIUM BISULFITE, CITRIC ACID and MIXED TOCOPHEROLS" I don't know how the new product tastes, and after reading the ingredients, I don't want to know. Previous product was a customer favorite, and many of us asked that it be returned, but not by this! I can only assume that the new product, with so many added preservatives, was selected because it has a longer shelf life?? Good for the manufacturer [make and ship larger batches at one time due to longer shelf life], good for Costco [easier to keep in stock, longer shelf life]; not good for the consumer!

Delicious, No Chemicals, And Definitely Not Organic...
These are the best for instant mashed! No preservatives or chemicals. I make small batches in Corelle serving bowls in the microwave, even though I do not like using the microwave, this is the only time I use it. I just pour some potato flakes in the bowl, add bottled water, stir and microwave for about 1 min 30 sec, when they are done heating, I add organic half and half and butter, then stir some more. The thickness depends on how much liquid is used as I generally don't follow the directions on the box. I also add Himalayan salt, and sometimes french fried onions to top. The last box that I purchased, which expires, 10/23/15, I have found that the flakes are more like little tiny clumps, which makes for lumpy mashed. To remedy, just grind them up in the Ninja blender or food processor to a powder. They will turn out even more creamy when they are done. I also purchased the garlic flavor, not sure of the exp date, but I am having the same issue. Thank goodness for the Ninja or I would be an unhappy camper.

Very good - BUT
Don't want a lynch mob coming to my house - but - these are not the best tasting instant potatoes I've ever eaten. They have great ingredients, are economical and are relatively simple (if somewhat messy) to make. I'm not sorry I bought them but probably won't buy them again. The Bob Evans microwave mashed potato containers I buy at Walmart (and elsewhere) are even simpler to prepare and make no mess at all to clean up. Plus (to me) they have a better (less granular/creamier) texture and they taste better (add a small pat of butter). No doubt they have an obnoxious list of ingredients. (Not sure - don't have one handy.) Then there is the Hungry Jack instant that my wife whips up from time to time. To me they also are excellent and taste better than the above, and have a superior texture. (Not sure what tricks - if any - my wife employs to prepare the Hungry Jack - but, they are really good!) I've only made one packet of this Honest Earth. Next time I may add more than four tablespoons of butter and maybe some cream? In any event, I do believe this is a quality product at a reasonable price.

These are probably the best tasting instant mashed potatoes I have eaten. They are all natural, creamy, and come very close to tasting like they are made from scratch. They already added sea salt in the powder, so you don't have to do anything to add flavor, unless you want to add something like garlic or cheese to change it up a bit. I was very happy to find these on Amazon since its hard to find this kind of thing in Japan. This is a Costco type box and will last a while, so I feel like the price is definitely worth it.
