It's a blend of spiritual teachings (he is a shaman) and nutritional advice for healing/recovery and general well being once you are well. Not surprisingly, now that so many people are learning about the pitfalls of excessive carbohydrates in the diet, he used some principles of a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting (combined with spirituality) to come back from a death sentence. Parasites, from all his years of studying in dense jungles) had spread to his brain and were killing him. He also had inefficient digestive system brought on by yeast overgrowth. I am a skeptic when it comes to most nutritional advice but one thing he said rang true for me. He said that you can eat all the yogurt you want and take all of the probiotics and prebiotics you want. It will never destroy the candida overgrowth because the candida will kill it before it even has a chance to form colonies of good bacteria in the gut. He also said that the only strain of probiotic strong enough to displace candida WITHOUT terrible side effects is S. Boulardii. By depriving candida of sugar using a ketogenic diet and ingesting "reactivated" S. Boulardii, you can displace the candida. Notice that I use the word "displace" and not "kill" because when you kill candida in your system, it gives off all kinds of toxins and makes you feel like crap. S. Boulardii, according to this author, is the only probiotic that has the ability to make colonies of candida leave your system while still living. It just displaces them and since they are being starved of sugar while you are on a ketogenic diet, they have nowhere to go so they leave through your bowels while still alive. Regarding the "reactivation" of the S. Boulardii, he suggested that because it becomes less potent during packaging and shipping, that you make a fruit slurry and empty a couple of capsules of into it and let it sit in your oven with only the oven light on for a couple of days until it looks fizzy. You will be able to tell when it's ready because it won't taste sweet anymore. The S. Boulardii will have eaten away the sugar during the fermentation process. Then, you store this mixture in the fridge and take a tablespoon a day for about a week or 2.It worked for me. I have had yeast issues off and on for years. It started with antibiotics being overprescribed to me for an acne condition I had in my teens and twenties and went downhill from there. My weak immunity led to more illnesses and more antibiotics and an even more compromised natural immunity.S. Boulardii is something I will keep on hand the rest of my life. I don't take it every day. I plan to do the one to two week regimen several times a year to support healthy colonization. I must confess that I did not follow Dr. Villoldo's complete regimen but then again, I didn't have the severity of illness that he had, but his tips for how to use the S. Boulardii to rid your body of yeast overgrowth without severe side effects was a definite take away for me. I did embrace ketogenic dieting with intermittent fast, but I prefer a cyclical ketogenic lifestyle to staying in permanent ketosis. That works better for me and is something I can stick to. I've had digestive issues for as long as I can remember and seldom am I confident that a new supplement will help me. What my current protocol I have be doing along with the S. Boulardii probiotic is 5-10 grams of L-Glutamine powder in water first thing in the morning, and 5 grams of L-Glutamine powder before my first meal if I have skipped breakfast. I will take 1 capsule of the Zhou Nutrition S. Boulardii probiotic before my first meal, which usually lunch. I will also ingest a dietary enzyme after each meal. I am consuming a low carb/ketogenic diet with no grains or sugars and I try to not consume beverages like coffee that may be difficult on my digestion. Plenty of water.I can't say that I noticed anything bad while taking these probiotics. No negative side effects.The positives seemed to be there. I did notice an improvement in digestion, meaning I had a noticeable reduction in gas and movements became more regular and more normalized, I’m feeling a lot better.
