This is the third one I've bought trying to find one that would work well for that purpose. This one is almost perfect. The only thing I've found is the water bottle holder is held in place by velcro. The velcro is only on the side shown. I really wanted to be able to use it on the other side so I had quick access to the bigger pouch. I can live with this.The bag itself is made out of some solid nylon material and appears to be built to last. The other two I bought, were made out of really thin nylon (think tent material) that concerned me with what I was putting in there. I would compare the material this one is made out of to a good Jansport backpack. The water bottle holder is made out of the same material. The water bottle holder is limited in the size of bottle it will hold. It isn't going to hold much bigger than a standard disposable water bottle. I only use 12 oz disposable water bottles, which the pack is obviously designed for. A larger bottle would not fit. In addition, there is room for a phone, map, small container of insect repellent, plus a few more small items. It appears to be study, with nice snap on-off latches, and zippers.
