Like a hair mole in a sea of backne she ...
From the writer that brought you Atlas of Remote Islands: Fifty Islands I have Never Set Foot On and Never Will and Faktur Mon Amour, even The Giraffe's Neck, comes the critically acclaimed novel of our generation Pocket Atlas of Remote Islands: Fifty Islands I Have Not Visited and Never Will. Judith Schnapps Schalansky dives into the dark depths of our inner childs desire to explore the uncharted islands of our misery. Like a hair mole in a sea of backne she points out the flaws of each of the islands appeasement and casts down any notion of visiting these abysmal atrocities. Judith OWNS this read and makes each island her female dog (can't swear). If you are a former sea navigator/explorer or just enjoy listening to people/places get ROASTED this is the kind of fire that is LIT. Enjoy.

I just love drifting through time-warped travel books
To me the book is about Fifty fantasy islands. I just love drifting through time-warped travel books, trekking over old maps, and going on exotic safaris through old travel stories and novels. "Pocket Atlas" fits right in with my dreamscapes. One of the remote islands that the author lists, I have actually visited—Deception Island, Antarctica. It was amazing. This island put a spell on me of which I am still under. I like the little size. The size makes it feel like it is a little bible.

Fifty Shades of Sand: Taste Remote Islands, But Never Leave the Armchair
Witty, imaginative, and yet sound with regards to the facts and mysteries of our world. Delightful short excursions to the unexplored parts of the mind and the globe; like listening to radio in the old days, the imagination is always more complete than the experience of traveling, with none of the thirst. Bought for a 15 year old standing on the brink of discovery.

huh
Bought for a college class, was pleasantly surprised by how good of a read it is. Very unique and haunting with its short stories and atlas of islands around the world.

World Traveling from Your Chair
Wow ... I felt I was right there on those islands. I became a world traveler in my chair. Schalansky's research and narratives were mini novels...Great.

Promises so much more than it delivers
I had such high hopes for this book. Countless islands have incredible stories attached to them, and I assumed this book would be a collection of the best of them. Instead, this book presents halfheartedly descriptive snapshots of the islands contained within - some less than a hundred words. If this is journalism, it's the laziest I've ever seen. If it's storytelling, it's some of the least compelling I've ever seen. The Wikipedia page for most of these islands is far more interesting than its counterpart in this book.

A Neat Little Book
This is an attractive, little book for dreamers, travellers and the curious. If you've ever been to one of these tiny islets, you'll instantly know why. It answers all the questions, island by island: who found it, when, and what's on it - even some clues about why it's populated (or not!). Best of all, even if you can't go there yourself, you can always take a closer look through the courtesy of Google-Earth. Who knows, you might even find one that you just MUST go visit.

Bastante flojo
Que decepcion! Pense que pondria informacion de cada isla, alguna foto... pero nada, son sus pajas mentales, algun chascarrillo y poco mas. Informaciopn util? NADA. Lamentable. Perdida de dinero. What a dissapointment. I was expecting information on each of the islands but nothing, just her talking and craking her inside jokes, and that's about it. No useful information - like how to visit the islands? a picture or two? Waste of money.

A wonderful book
Little out-of-the-way islands. Little out-of-the-way facts about them. Just the kind of book we Worldle fans love. For readers looking for a travel book though, this is not it. But for those looking for interesting information about places they didn’t know existed, this is a fine read.
