Coming off of a 12v Black and Decker
**5 YEAR UPDATE** After 5 years, I can say that this set has outlasted any other equipment I've purchased. They show the love and wear over the years, but just a few weeks ago, I drove 4 inch lag bolts in to laminated floor joists. This set has far exceeded my expectations. The batteries STILL last forever and require such a small amount of time on the charger. If you're still not convinced at the quality, durability and dependability of these tools, then I don't know what else can be said :) **12 Month Update - STILL Going Strong!** Most reviews seem to only cover the initial reaction to products, if I like something enough, I like to give a 1-year review of the product as well. Here's why this set continues to be a 5-star "love it": 1. I built a play set for my daughter with these tools, and never once felt like I needed more power. The driver and impact are so compact, light and powerful, I'm superbly happy with these tools every single time I pick them up. 2. I didn't use them much during the winter months, so like other tools, I expected energy loss in the batteries. Not so with the battery design Dewalt uses. I've used the tools on-and-off for random house projects over the winter, and just started a garage project this past weekend with the break of spring and it is only after this project will the batteries need a charge. They've lasted through the entire winter without a single charge. Incredible. I was really quite on the fence about these tools when looking around for options. I'm very glad I convinced myself to go with a top-quality brand and tool. It has saved me so many head and muscle aches. Original Review: I knew these would be an upgrade (understatement) from what I was coming from, since before these tools, I had only rented and generally only needed the "around the house to hang stuff" driver. Even then, the driver I came from under performed at every corner. Any time I needed to pre-drill in to a stud or even drive a screw with any resistance, I had to put more weight behind the drive to get what I wanted. Put this tool set to the test this weekend building a home-made workbench with 2x4s and 1/4" plywood. Pre drilled everything with the driver and drove the 3" screws in to the 2x4s with the impact. I'm far from a woodworker, and thought these things would be overkill for my use, but after using this set, I know now just how valuable a good set of tools really are. Absolutely in love with these things. I used this set all day (8 hours in total) and the impact got most of the job duty for the day. It wasn't until the last 8-10 screws did I notice the unit slowing down a bit due to the battery drain, but even after that point, it wasn't complaining, just taking a bit longer to drive the screws in. Battery life is absolutely insane. Recommend this set to anyone. Even if you're planning to be a weekend warrior for small jobs around the house, this set is for you. It'll make your life much easier and they simply won't stop until you're done.

Awesome drill set. Hammer drill chuck - Big wobble.
Awesome drill set. Super lightweight and outstanding power. However, but both sets (1st set flawed and the 2nd set flawed) were retruned because of the wobbly chuck on the drill. Impact drill worked great and was perfect all around. So I did some testing and I showed family and friends and all saw the the same wobble. Each tried to test out different sized brand new drill bits on the drill for themselves. Sadly all saw the Big wobble. This was on the 1st set. 2nd set had the same issue. I want to point out that each set i rec'd had a very close (in series) batch number... I forget the serial number sceme but what I mean is the 1st set was XX-2243 the 2nd set was XX-2334 or whatever. So maybe that batch series were just poorly manufactured. Anyway I couldnt justify $277 and settle for a brand new lopsided chuck on the drill. Also did some test run on some scrap wood and it the bit wouldnt spin true. It made some sloppy looking holes. Not talking terrible holes here but to compare, my lil 12v drill makes nice and clean holes. On the Same scrap wood, with the same new drill bits. That did it for me. It was really sad to see to be honest. Returned 2 sets and said screw it and bought the upgraded set: DEWALT DCK296M2 for only $11 more. Much happier and satisfied with this hammer drill as it has no wobble and powers thru everything. The impact drill (from the 3rd new set DCK296M2) also sounded different and spun faster compared to the DCK286D2 set. I cant be sure since i didnt test this. Of course, The 2.0 or 4.0 amp battery did not make a difference in the motor sound or speed between the 2 impacts from both sets (DCK286D2 vs DCK296M2) Overall I still think the drills are top notch. I'll never forget opening the box and using the drills for the 1st time. It was Awesome! Maybe a series of drills got botched over there in China.

Amazon Return Policy takes the risk out of buying online
I got this kit for the 20 volt lithium batteries and I wanted a 1/2 inch battery hammer drill... I love the batteries the impact tool is awesome. The hammer drill died after the first hole... HOWEVER the Amazon return policy is unreal....I asked to return the hammer drill at 10:00 A.M. on a Wednesday... I had the replacement in my hands at 11:00 A.M. Thursday... The replacement hammer drill is good but will not turn a 3/4 inch auger bit... I got a 20 volt right angle Dewalt drill on sale at Lowes this morning.... It turns the auger bit with no hesitation. I used the hammer drill to drill a number of holes thru tile... for this application it works great. All and all I am happy with the kit... Amazon takes all the risk out of buying online.

Awesome Compact Combo Kit!
My husband bought this drill. This is his review... I have been using a Makita 12V drill for the past 12 years. It has been very reliable; it is too slow and lacks the torque I need for drilling 1/2" holes in wood and metal, though. I decided I wanted something with more power and speed, and still be compact. I did a lot of research and I realize there are many opinions about who is better... Dewalt, Milwaukee, Makita, etc. Sometimes it seems to be just like the Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge vs others debate on who makes the best truck. Some have said that the drill in this kit lacks torque and battery life compared to Milwaukee M18 Fuel. I don't doubt it since the M18 Fuel is not a compact drill and was made for heavy duty jobs. If I built houses for a living, I would not buy this Dewalt Combo for my main drills. It has a lower capacity batteries (1.5 Ah instead of the 3 or 4 Ah batteries) and does not have the torque and speed of many of the larger cordless drills. That being said, this is great for a handy man. Whether it is for the DIY'er or Jack of all trades, this set is perfect. I found that the DCK286 20V Max is perfect for me. I have not had a chance to use this on any major projects yet to test the limits of the Drills, but I will update this review when I do. Note: If you are not familiar with impact drivers, they are great tools, but be aware there are somethings that you need to know. It was designed mainly to drive screws using bit rotation and when it meats resistance it uses a hammer like action in the direction of the rotation of the chuck (this different from a hammer drill, which uses a hammering function in the direction you are driving the drill bit). Because of this function, be careful about trying to use the drill bits made to fit the 1/4" hex chuck-- just use the regular drill. Also be careful using the standard chrome sockets. If you will be requiring a lot of torque, you may consider getting "impact" rated sockets. I say "may" since this impact driver does not have the torque of 3/4" air powered impact wrench.

This is a great set for the professional or home handyman
This is a great set for the professional or home handyman. I switched to the 20 Max tools in 2012 and haven't been disappointed at all. The greatest benefit, to me, is that this is the growing line of LI tools in Dewalt;s line. That means more options, greater interchangeability of batteries and parts will be available longer. I have the set with five LI tools, all top of the line (at the time), but not brushless. This drill is lighter and slightly different in the selector and it's only two speeds, but for almost everything I can think of, it works great. The driver is almost identical to my other driver and has always had all the power that I need to get the job done without any strain. The advantage is that it's brushless, so although it will accept my larger batteries, I can use the smaller batteries and still get all of the power and all of the battery life without the weight! That's a real advantage if you're using these all day long - especially reaching out to drive a screw hanging off of a ladder. So - not only does the battery last longer - I last longer too. The set comes with a sturdy bag, charger and two LI batteries. There's room in the bag for additional batteries.

Awesome
I'd been wanting to replace my old dewalt (drill only) for quite some time with something that had an impact driver and a drill with more power. Finally pulled the plug on this kit and i couldn't be happier. Quality is top notch and these things are tough as nails. They have work-lights that come on when you touch the trigger to illuminate the area you're working on. And did i mention they are powerful. Have yet to come across something either one of these can't handle. Hammerdrill/drill into concrete = no problem, driving screws/drilling into metal = no problem. It's worth mentioning that the batteries last longer than the older models, are smaller and lighter, and the weight on both tools has decreased dramatically. Also the batteries go full power until they need to be recharged, no more dwindling power, they just cut out when they can no longer provide full power. Best purchase I've made in awhile.

Good drill. Terrible batteries.
Good drill. Terrible batteries. I had to get one replaced almost immediately, and Dewalt did so, but it took a few calls. However, less than a year after purchase, and with low usage overall, the 2nd battery is now completely dead. This kit was a good value, but not with batteries like this.

My first Dewault item ever and I love it. These tools are light in my hand
My first Dewault item ever and I love it. These tools are light in my hand. They have a good soft grip to them. The charging of the batteries are super fast. My only complaint would be that the batteries are a tad bit difficult to remove from tool. You have to grip them where you press the release button and slide them forward. I'm probably just not use it. Easy in and out of the charging station though. But I did have an issue with charging the first time. I noticed that the batteries need a little constant force making contact to the charger. I had first just set the charger on my bench and slid the battery in. I noticed that the charger wouldn't charge battery unless I applied a little push to it. So then I stood up the charger. And just the weight of the battery was enough to make decent contact to the charger. So I wall mounted my charger and have no issues now. So I would suggest wall-mounting the charger. I read about the brushless motors and wondered if they really make a difference compared to the regular motors. Now I can't compare because I don't own a "non"brushless" Dewault driver, but I can tell you that on a full charge I was able to work for about 3 hours driving in 4 inch screws into lumber. Bottom line. Definitely happy purchase. Would recommend to others.
