in the silky toes velvet foldable ballet flats is a size 8 a medium?

8 is large. Im an 8 and ordered large

Would an arch insole fit inside this shoe?

Yes, an arch insole should fit inside the shoe.

Do these smush your toes together (i hate that!)? do i order an xl for a size 9.5? ty!

They hold your toes together like heavy socks so there is not a roomy "toe box" in these slippers. I ordered a large for a size 8.5-9 but I think you need to go up to an XL for anything larger. The soles of the slippers are thin so they bend easily but they are not really made to wear outside.
